This position reports directly to the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine and serves as the primary athletic trainer for the Division I football program. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for delivering comprehensive athletic healthcare services, including injury prevention, emergency response, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation, in accordance with established medical standards and terminology. The role requires effective collaboration within a multidisciplinary team environment, with a strong emphasis on shared goals and task completion. Clear and professional written and verbal communication is essential. The Athletic Trainer must have a working knowledge of departmental policies and procedures and is expected to consult with supervisors on decisions involving policy interpretation or exceptions. Work is generally performed under limited supervision, adhering to established protocols and best practices to ensure optimal outcomes. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of casting, splinting, and injection prep in an outpatient sports medicine clinic.
  • Knowledge of orthopedic bracing, specifically measurement of prophylactic knee braces.
  • Knowledge of athlete monitoring methods and the ability to use data analysis to alter training programs.
  • Knowledge of Teamworks/ARMS management systems software.
  • Ability to use Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to understand NCAA Division I policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in sports science or a related field
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a certified athletic trainer (certified graduate assistantship accepted)
  • Current National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) certification
  • Current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer certification
  • Eligibility for State of Tennessee licensure

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in sports science or a related field
  • Experience working with collegiate football programs, ideally at the Division I level
  • Ability to apply casting and splinting material as directed by the team physician
  • Documented expertise with Blue Ocean/Vivature EMR and/or ARMS management systems software
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience with Division I football
