Position Summary

Perform a variety of early childhood development and teaching activities; develop and implement lesson plans for children and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in elementary education, early childhood education, child development, family studies, or liberal studies; and

One (1) year of classroom teaching or student teaching practicum experience, preferably in early childhood development.

Additional Requirements

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Possession of a valid C.P.R. certificate within six (6) months from date of hire.

Possession of a valid First Aid certificate within six (6) months from date of hire.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

  • Operations, services and activities of an effective child development and teaching program
  • Methods and techniques of lesson plan development and instruction
  • Theories and practices of early childhood development
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping
  • Principles and procedures of safety as related to child development activities
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Perform a variety of child development teaching activities
  • Administer minor first aid as needed
  • Conduct parent conferences and communicate individual child progress
  • Maintain and update accurate and detailed records
  • Utilize computer software programs
  • Ensure the general maintenance and cleanliness of assigned child development center
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including City officials and the general public
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
