About The Role

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in the insurance claims space and be eager to lead the creation and development of a high-performing claims department within a dynamic, fast-growing organization. The ideal candidate will bring strategic vision, operational excellence, and a passion for building scalable processes from the ground up. This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and offers remote work flexibility within states where Players Health currently employs staff, unless otherwise approved. Players Health is a remote-first distributed workforce. Travel may be required for team collaboration, training, and development. The Director of Claims role has a compensation range of $140,000 - $180,000, depending on skills and experience.

Responsibilities (are Inclusive Of But Not Limited To)

Operational Excellence & Compliance

  • Oversee the entire claims process—from intake to resolution.
  • Ensure timely, fair, and accurate settlement of claims.
  • Manage complex or high-value claims directly when needed.
  • Handle escalations and appeals.
  • Ensure claims practices comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant industry regulations (e.g., state DOIs, Lloyd’s requirements).
  • Oversee audits and implement corrective actions if required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional travel for team engagement, collaboration, or events.


Strategic Leadership & Relationship Management

  • Develop and implement the overall claims strategy aligned with MGA goals.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs and performance benchmarks.
  • Identify trends and recommend improvements in claims handling processes.
  • Collaborate with underwriting and finance to estimate loss reserves accurately.
  • Monitor claims reserves and loss ratios.
  • Approve large claim payments and ensure proper documentation.
  • Provide regular claims performance reports to senior leadership and carrier partners.
  • Analyze claims data to identify risks, trends, or fraud.
  • Deliver insights to improve underwriting and risk selection.
  • Maintain strong relationships with insurer partners and brokers.
  • Report claims performance and address concerns from carriers.
  • Support business development by showcasing claims capabilities.
  • Manage relationships with TPAs, legal counsel, adjusters, and other vendors.
  • Evaluate and approve service agreements.
  • Monitor TPA performance and conduct regular audits.


Minimum Skills & Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in property & casualty insurance claims with a deep knowledge of processing, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • 5+ years of experience working on complex analytical projects with diverse teams and developing data driven and outcome-based initiatives to improve business decision making and operational efficiencies.
  • Ability to obtain Property & Casualty insurance license within the first 45 days of employment.
  • Strong emotional intelligence skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.


Desired Characteristics

  • Although not required, a bachelor’s degree in business, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in property & casualty insurance claims with a deep
  • Experience building and implementing claims auditing protocols
  • Ability to develop and implement claims strategies and process improvements
  • Familiarity with claims management systems and data analytics tools
  • Self-motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment
  • Demonstrated experience and/or ability to influence without authority
  • Demonstrated ability to build connections and rapport cross-departmentally
  • Participant/involvement in or strong understanding of the youth/amateur sports landscape.


Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel occasionally for team events, collaboration, engagement, conferences, or customer visits
  • Must have a dedicated safe and secure remote work environment

  • Proactive communicator in all communication methods, including email (Outlook), verbal (in-person & phone), instant messaging (Slack & Teams)
  • Willingness and ability to attend virtual meetings with camera on – we respect that there are times when employees may need to turn their camera off.
