Description
The Payroll Coordinator provides support to the Payroll Manager and plays a key role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations. The Payroll Coordinator assists with day-to-day payroll tasks, data entry, recordkeeping, and employee support, contributing to a smooth and positive payroll experience for all staff.
Key Responsibilities:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Payroll Manager. Schedule includes regular office hours. Occasional overtime may be required during payroll processing cycles or special situations such as audits. Primary work location is the Thunder corporate office located in downtown Oklahoma City.

The Payroll Coordinator provides support to the Payroll Manager and plays a key role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations. The Payroll Coordinator assists with day-to-day payroll tasks, data entry, recordkeeping, and employee support, contributing to a smooth and positive payroll experience for all staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with preparation and processing of semi-monthly payroll by reviewing timecard submissions and identifying discrepancies
- Enter and maintain accurate employee payroll data, including but not limited to new hires, terminations, employee changes, and direct deposit information
- Track and audit timekeeping data, and follow up with supervisors and employees to ensure accuracy and completeness in a timely manner
- Support employee and supervisor inquiries regarding payroll, timekeeping systems, and deadlines
- Respond to employment verification requests and coordinate with Third-party verifiers
- Help distribute pay stubs, W-2s, and other payroll-related documents as needed
- Maintain payroll records in a confidential and organized manner
- Help review and verify payroll reports for accuracy before final payroll submission
- Assist in determining and entering taxable earnings for employee per diems in compliance with IRS guidelines and company policy
- Run standard reports from the payroll system for auditing or distribution to internal teams
- Assist in tracking vacation, sick, and leave balances, ensuring data is up to date in the system
- Help prepare materials for audits and assist with compliance documentation
- Assist with maintaining multi-state tax profiles and setting up new state/local tax accounts as directed
- Support the Payroll Manager with garnishment documentation and ensure timely processing
- Aid in the coordination and submission of employment and tax-related filings, including BLS surveys or state-specific reports
- Work closely with People & Culture and Accounting teams to ensure accurate payroll entries and proper classification of earnings and deductions
- Help reconcile basic payroll accounts and follow up on missing information or inconsistencies
- Assist with special projects and payroll initiatives, including process improvements and employee education materials
- Perform other duties as assigned to support People & Culture functions
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is valued, education or experience in payroll, accounting, or human resources is preferred
- Basic understanding of payroll concepts and timekeeping systems is desirable
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to connect across departments and organizational levels
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in handling confidential materials
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Experience using Paycom HRIS is a plus
- Being bilingual is valued, but not required
