The Strategy and Planning Director is essential to advancing the strategic priorities of Optum Operations by providing leadership, analytical rigor, and strategic insight across multiple domains. This role requires end-to-end ownership of multiple complex initiatives, from framing the problem and building the plan, to driving execution alongside cross-functional teams and senior leaders. The ideal candidate brings solid analytical skills, operational discipline, and the ability to influence in a matrixed environment.

Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic thought partner and resource to senior leadership, contributing to Optum Health Operations planning and decision-making
- Identify and develop pioneering strategies to address challenges and opportunities to improve customer experience and the efficiency and efficacy of operations
- Influence senior stakeholders to adopt innovative approaches, tools, and frameworks.
- Formulate actionable insights and articulates analytical findings to senior leadership across multiple lines of business, while exposing assumptions and validation work in an easily understandable and consistent manner
- Assess viability of programs/business cases using appropriate analytical techniques and pressure-test the value stories across our business partners using rigorous statistical methodologies
- Translate complex data and strategic concepts into clear, actionable insights for diverse internal audiences
- Drive large-scale, cross-functional initiatives with broad impact across the organization such as:
- Leverage advanced analytics and AI to support and predict trends that drive business growth and operational improvements
- Analyze and understand top call drivers to create actionable digital/omnichannel strategy to improve customer experience
- Partner across tech, digital and operations to drive integrated friction-less omnichannel/digital experiences
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years in strategic operations, analytics/data science, or healthcare operations
- 7+ years of experience leading teams, programs, projects, and supervisory role
- Experience presenting findings to senior leadership, government agencies, or non-technical audiences
- Experience aligning business or research strategies with organizational goals
- Ability to use data and advanced analytics to develop strategy and drive decisions
- Proven solid communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies
- Solid analytical and conceptual thinking skills
- Ability to solve complex problems and develop innovative solutions
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Ability to manage up and set clear expectations for delivery
