Essential Functions and Responsibilities to create and drive strategy for overall quality, compliance, and GMP initiatives throughout the organization via but not limited to the following:

  • Design and execute flavor development projects, with minimal supervision, for new and existing products based on customer and/or internal requirements.
  • Create and revise formulas, specifications, compounding instructions and evaluate flavor and color performance in various matrices (e.g. powders, tablets, chewable tablets).
  • Develop innovative flavor systems – including taste modulators, spray dries, encapsulates, and characterizing flavors – to support both internal innovation and customer needs.
  • Stay up to date on flavor trends, food technology developments, and regulatory changes to ensure formulations are cutting-edge, compliant, and aligned with market demand.
  • Conduct stability studies and shelf-life testing under varying conditions.
  • Collaborate with flavor houses and suppliers to source, evaluate, and customize flavor ingredients and systems.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (QA, Regulatory, Marketing, Operations, DFM/Commercialization) to ensure compliance and alignment.
  • Support scale-up and commercialization efforts by translating bench formulations into pilot and production processes.
  • Conduct sensory evaluations, organize panel testing, and interpret data.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of formulations, processes, and testing results.
  • Organize and ensure smooth handling of all outgoing samples.
  • Support the development of junior colleagues through hands-on guidance, knowledge sharing, and fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education – B.S or M.S in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience – 5+ years of experience in flavor development or food product formulation.
  • Language Skills – Must be able to communicate complex concepts in English, verbally and in writing.
  • Computer Skills – Must be able to use Microsoft Office, operate inventory software or other business-related software, management of files and records.
  • Mathematical Skills – Accuracy with arithmetic, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, percentages, fractions, and algebra.
  • Acute sense of smell and taste.
  • Deep understanding of flavor interaction in different food/beverage systems and matrices.
  • Familiarity with sensory evaluation techniques and analytical tools
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Experience working in a GMP, FDA-regulated, or flavor-focused manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of natural, artificial, and masking flavor and color systems.
  • Understanding of clean-label trends and functional ingredient interactions.
