Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations within a shared services environment. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for managing all aspects of payroll processing for three restaurant brands with approximately 6,000 employees across the U.S. and Canada. This position reports to the Payroll Director of Shared Services and manages a team of 3–4 Payroll Specialists.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage and participate in the multi-state U.S. and Canada payroll and timekeeping processes including reviewing, validating and reconciling payroll data to ensure accurate payroll payments, reporting and records
  • Provide direct supervision, leadership and development to the West Covina payroll team
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions and updates including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions as well as new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates
  • Lead annual payroll audits and ensure timely completion.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard sensitive employee and payroll information.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including HR, Accounting, and IT—to align payroll strategy with overall business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all U.S. federal, state, and local wage and tax regulations, as well as Canadian payroll laws and registration requirements.
  • Stay up to date with changes in tax laws, benefit programs, and labor regulations affecting payroll.
  • Generate payroll reports summarizing earnings, taxes, deductions, leaves, and other non-taxable compensation.
  • Foster a high level of customer service within the payroll team.
  • Address and resolve escalated payroll issues or inquiries promptly and professionally.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on accuracy, process improvement, and problem-solving.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and math skills essential.
  • Deep understanding of payroll systems and legislation in both the U.S. and Canada.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • High level of integrity and ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across departments.
  • A self-starter with a proactive approach to resolving challenges and identifying opportunities for improvement.


  • Education and Experience:
  • 5+ years’ of progressive experience managing multi-state payroll operations, including direct team leadership.
  • Experience using ADP Workforce Now is required.
  • Industry experience in restaurants, hospitality, or retail preferred.
  • Experience in a shared services environment strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll-related laws, tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Canada payroll experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s or Associates degree preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.
