Position Summary

Schedules and coordinates flow of raw material and paperwork between the Inventory Control and production departments by performing the following duties, with constant supervision.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains inventory of raw material needed to complete on time production.
  • Compiles and maintains computerized records such as material inventory, in process production reports, and status and location of materials.
  • Compiles computerized stock control records and information such as consumption rate, characteristics of stock on hand, and current market conditions, to determine stock supply and need for replenishment.
  • Coordinates utilization of inventory from Shultz Steel LLC.
  • Negotiates and finalizes purchases of raw material for assigned material classes.
  • Includes all phases of mill contact, including coordination of claims and debits.
  • Assists Sales personnel with material and inventory information, including mill quotes.
  • Establishes priorities for specific customer orders.
  • Computes amount of material required to complete job orders.
  • Responsible for each job (in assigned material class) from material reservation through the start of final production.
  • Determines material availability, allocation, traveler writing (including conversion travelers) and process scheduling.
  • Reviews master production schedules and related information and confers with department supervisors to determine material requirements to identify overdue materials and to track material.
  • Keeps backorder file in established sequence and releases backorders for issue or shipment as stock becomes available.
  • Approve for payment all invoices for raw material (within assigned material class) and freight bills.
  • Coordinate material thru VAR department.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • have knowledge of all Microsoft Office software as well as Inventory software; Order processing systems; must have expert skills in Excel spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
