Description

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The Primary Therapist conducts individual, group and family therapy in accordance with license requirements, CARF standards and Caron Policies. The expectation is to cover any program within Caron Florida when needed.
  • Evaluates signs and symptoms of alcohol/ drug abuse and other coexisting conditions.
  • Identifies strengths, weaknesses, and problem areas to develop the clinical formulation; translates these issues into a treatment plan with individual patient involvement.
  • The Primary Therapist provides counseling for each individual patient and their families by selecting the counseling theories, applying techniques to assist the patient, group, or family in accordance with cultural, gender, lifestyle, and age differences.
  • Coordinates all services for client care. Able to recognize the elements of the patient’s crisis, implement an immediate course of action appropriate to the crisis, and utilize all resources to resolve/ treat the patient group in a timely manner.
  • The Primary Therapist effectively communicates relevant clinical information to the patient, family, group, and staff.
  • Responds to off hour issues/concerns in a timely and effective manner.
  • The Primary Therapist has the ability to identify needs and problem areas that are beyond the scope of care offered by Caron. Must be able to explain rationale for referral to patient and match the appropriate referral to the patients’ needs.

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to travel by plane and other forms of travel as needed.
  • Must be able to work extended hours.

Experience / Education Qualifications

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in a related field required
  • License preferred with 1 year of clinical experience in relevant field. Licensure required for Ocean Drive programs.
  • Experience with in-network insurance programs preferred for Core program.
  • If in recovery, 2 years of continuous sobriety preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • An excellent understanding of the emotional and behavioral effects of addiction.
  • An excellent understanding of family systems.
  • Ability to use clinical software and other software programs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be “on-call” in the event of an emergency.

Competencies / Measurements

  • Ability to utilize various clinical modalities in group process and individual sessions—Direct Observation.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries, professionalism and ethical behavior with patients, families, and other professionals. —Direct Observation and Individual Supervision.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate documentation in a timely manner—Chart Review.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality in accordance with Title 42 CFR, Part 2, HIPAA, and Caron Policies.
