Job Summary

The Market Analyst at Outward Hound turns raw data into the insights and dashboards that steer product positioning, pricing, and content optimization across Amazon, Chewy, and national retail partners.

Work Performed

Analyzes online sales data, customer behavior, and market trends to help businesses improve their online operations and strategies. Tracks key performance indicators (KPIs), conduct competitive analysis, and collaborate with marketing and sales teams to optimize campaigns and improve the overall customer experience.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Mine NIQ, SPINS, Profitero, and Amazon Brand Analytics to size category trends and whitespace.
  • Co-build and maintain Power BI dashboards (traffic, CVR, TACoS, sell-through, review sentiment).
  • Package findings into “state of the category” decks for Merchandising and Ecommerce leadership.
  • Validate A/B tests and coach non-analyst teammates on dashboard navigation.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, And Other

  • 3–5 years in market research, category management, or BI within CPG or retail.
  • Proficiency in SQL or BigQuery and PowerBI.
  • Strong storytelling skills—able to translate complex data into clear, visual narratives.
  • Familiarity with ecommerce KPIs and pet-industry dynamics.
  • The ability to create reports, presentations and visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • The ability to provide recommendations on product development, pricing, marketing strategies and sales tactics based on market research.
  • The ability to identify and profile customer segments to target marketing efforts.
  • Planning and executing A/B tests to evaluate the effectiveness of different strategies and layouts.
  • The ability to monitor and report on KPI’s such as conversion rates, click-through rates and customer acquisition costs.
  • Analyze website traffic, sales figures, user behavior and other relevant data to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Ability to monitor competitor activities, pricing and marketing strategies to gain insights into the competitive landscape.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams, including marketing, Product Development, Design and Sales.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years in market research, category management, or BI within CPG or retail.
  • Bachelor's Degree required in Marketing, Business Administration, Statistics, Economics or other related field.
  • Background in the pet industry or a passion for pet products.

Annual Salary Range: $75K - $110K - Depending on experience
