Vocational Counselor
Orion is hiring an experienced Vocational Counselor. This position is on-site based out of our Auburn location.

This position will support and empower clients in our transitional training programs. Through participation in our transitional training program, clients locate jobs, build self-esteem, manage barriers and gain skills. Our clients come from a wide array of backgrounds including those with disabilities, in recovery, who have had justice system involvement and more. Our goal is to provide necessary support to allow transition to competitive employment. The average time in our program is 4-7 months.

Your Day as a Vocational Counselor
- Meet 1:1 with clients to collaborate on goals, address barriers, provide feedback
- Support and collaborate with mentors/instructors who provide training
- Engage with referral sources to solicit referrals and provide feedback on clients in the program.
- Ensure case files meet quality assurance expectations including service plans and case notes. Write daily/monthly reports documenting progress for clients on caseload
- Locate community resources to support clients to address barriers.
- Collaborate with our Job Developers to transition clients into community jobs.
- Caseload size averages 15-30.
- Have the ability to set and hold firm expectations with clients while also supporting them to address barriers and build stability and confidence.
Qualifications:
- Possess a Master’s Degree in job related field and hold certification such as CRC or CDMS and job experience in vocational rehabilitation preferred. Five years or more of relevant experience in lieu of education.
- Have a minimum of 1 year of demonstrated experience meeting clients’ needs and providing vocational counseling / case management.
- Knowledge of disabilities and their impact on functioning and employment.
- Understanding of and progress toward achieving key metrics in position. (logging direct service time, achieving retention rate etc.)
- Ability to pass background check including the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) background through Background Check Central Unit (BCCU)
- Valid driver's license and personally insured vehicle
