This position is primarily responsible for preparing and cooking a wide variety of food for residents, employees, and visitors. Responsible for cleanliness and proper usage of equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas. Must follow policies regarding sanitation, food handling, safety, confidentiality, personal appearance and hygiene, reporting hazardous conditions and accidents, and attendance at in-service training while maintaining a high level of quality service to residents. This position may also be responsible for driving the catering van for daily catering service.

Based upon previous work experiences and qualifications, the starting rate of pay is $15.75 - $20.27 per hour.

Schedule

  • 10 am-6:30 pm, Monday-Friday
  • Weekends as needed, with a day off during the week
  • 80 hours per pay period (every two weeks)
  • Eligible for benefits at date of hire

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year experience cooking in an institutional food service environment.
  • Must have working knowledge of HACCP and OSHA protocols.
  • Must be detail-oriented, possess basic mathematical skills; be able to read, write, speak, and understand the basics of the English language.
  • Must be able to act, intervene independently in routine and emergency situations, be self-motivated, participate in holiday activities, and maintain positive relationships with residents and co-workers.
  • Must be able to overtime, holidays, and weekends as scheduled.
  • Must be willing to cross-train in various job duties within VMRC Dining Services.
  • Must be able to deal tactfully with residents, families, and the general public in a positive, professional, and customer first manner.
  • Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written assignments; ability to perform the duties listed in the job description with limited supervision.
  • Self-motivated, able to schedule time wisely and accommodate changes.
  • May require the ability to obtain authorization on the VMRC Approved Drivers List. Position requires long hours standing, and may require the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
