About The Role

The Director of Business Development, MGA position is focused on driving growth through strategic partnerships within the MGA space. The ideal candidate will be responsible for articulating our mission and demonstrating the value of our MGA programs to brokers, carriers, and other stakeholders. You’ll leverage your existing network while actively prospecting for new opportunities, aligning prospects with the right underwriting and operational teams. The ideal Director of Business Development, MGA will have 10+ years of experience in commercial insurance, with a strong background in MGA or program business.

This role will report to the Senior Vice President of Underwriting and is available to work remotely or in a state where Players Health currently employs staff, unless approved otherwise. Players Health is a remote-first distributed workforce. Travel may be required for team collaboration, training, and development. The Director of Business Development, MGA position has a compensation range of $110,000 - $150,000, depending on skills and experience and offers quarterly bonuses based on KPI and new revenue brought into the organization. You will join an organization going through significant growth as well as digital transformation. Instill a mindset of ownership and accountability with all managers and team members, providing a “playbook” for best practices – defining expectations to meet the vision and strategy for growth.

Responsibilities (are Inclusive Of But Not Limited To)

  • Build and nurture relationships with retail brokers, wholesalers, and carrier partners by to drive new business into the MGA, clearly articulating the value of our underwriting capabilities and specialized programs.
  • Educate brokers and agency partners on the full value of our MGA’s offerings, including our proprietary risk management and athlete safety tools, to positions us as a differentiated and trusted partner
  • Identify and pursue new distribution opportunities by prospecting agencies and brokerages nationwide, aligning their client needs with our MGA’s appetite and solutions.
  • Actively participate in industry groups and events to stay informed on trends, share insights, and build connections that lead to new business opportunities.
  • Represent the company at relevant industry events and conferences, engaging with key stakeholders to uncover opportunities and promote our mission and capabilities.
  • Prospect and cultivate relationships with agencies and brokerages across the country, aligning their needs with our MGA offerings.
  • Stay current on market dynamics, regulatory changes, competitor activity, and emerging risks, to inform business development strategies and refine our value proposition.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with underwriting, compliance, and operations teams to ensure a seamless onboarding experience and long-term success for new broker partners.
  • Champion our mission and core values in all external communications, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment with our brand.
  • Continuously improve outreach and onboarding processes, identifying ways to enhance efficiency, broker satisfaction, and internal collaboration.
  • Demonstrate urgency and responsiveness in all communications with brokers and internal stakeholders to maintain momentum and trust.
  • Ensure smooth transitions for new broker relationships into the appropriate underwriting and servicing workflows.
  • Support internal initiatives that promote operational excellence, innovation, and alignment with our strategic goals.
  • Leverage a consultative, team-based approach to understand broker needs and deliver tailored solutions that drive mutual success.

  • Continuously improve internal processes to drive operational excellence.

  • Travel as needed to support relationship development, team collaboration, and industry engagement.


Minimum Skills & Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience selling commercial insurance, with a proven track record of building and growing a book of business within an MGA environment.
  • Current Property & Casualty insurance license.
  • Prior experience developing and executing sales strategies to meet revenue goals.
  • Demonstrated success in a high-activity sales role with measurable results.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to balance sales and client service responsibilities.
  • 10+ years of experience in client-facing or service-oriented roles.
  • Resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Experience with Applied Epic or other CRM platforms.
  • Strong emotional intelligence skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.


Desired Characteristics

  • Although not required, a bachelor's degree in business, Business Administration, Insurance or related field is desired.
  • 7+ years of experience in MGA or program business.
  • 10+ years of insurance industry experience.
  • Self-motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment
  • Demonstrated experience and/or ability to influence without authority
  • Demonstrated ability to build connections and rapport cross-departmentally
  • Participant/involvement in or strong understanding of the youth/amateur sports landscape.

  • Ability to travel occasionally for team events, collaboration, engagement, conferences, or customer visits
  • Must have a dedicated safe and secure remote work environment
  • Must have the ability to work and be productive in a remote work environment

  • Proactive communicator in all communication methods, including email (Outlook), verbal (in-person & phone), instant messaging (Slack & Teams)
  • Willingness and ability to attend virtual meetings with camera on – we respect that there are times when employees may need to turn their camera off.
