Position Summary
The Head Coach of Team Texas is responsible for leading one of the most competitive youth climbing programs in the country. This role is central to shaping the vision, culture, and performance of Team Texas within the broader Movement community. The Head Coach will provide elite-level coaching, foster a growth-oriented team culture, and develop a sustainable coaching development pathway. This long-term career opportunity requires a dynamic leader who can balance high-level athlete development with strategic program management and community integration.

Key Responsibilities
Vision & Leadership
- Develop, guide, and articulate the vision for Team Texas as a nationally top ranked climbing team that creates outstanding climbers and people, in line with the company’s mission, vision and values.
- Partner with Lead Coaches in developing effective training plans to achieve athletes’ goals.
- Amplify the Team’s identity and values through leadership, innovation and a commitment to transformative excellence.
- Partner with leadership of the Team Movement programs in the DFW region to create a cohesive developmental pathway for athletes and coaches.
- Foster a team culture based on growth, connection, integrity, and respect.
- Serve as a role model for athletes and coaches, representing Team Texas within the broader climbing community.
- Deliver high-quality coaching during weekly practices (5 days/week including weeknights and weekends).
- Create and implement personalized training plans with the support of Lead and Assistant Coaches for athletes.
- Coach at competitions and events; serve as the primary point of contact for competition logistics and communication.
- Provide private coaching sessions as needed.
- Provide support in setting for Team Texas as needed.
- Train and mentor Team Texas and Team Movement coaches to support coach retention and long-term program growth.
- Provide ongoing feedback, conduct performance reviews, and support professional development.
- Collaborate with the setting team to plan and execute training camps and competition prep.
- Partner with Gym Directors (GDs) and Youth Team Managers (YTMs) on scheduling and training logistics.
- Support and consult on JCCA and USAC youth competitions as needed.
- Maintain strong communication with parents/guardians and the Team Texas Climbing Foundation.
- Support upkeep of training centers as needed and ensure safe, effective training environments.
- Help teach, monitor and document athlete belay and fall risk skills using provided frameworks.
- In partnership with Regional Leadership:
- Manage program budget and targets.
- Plan and input practice schedules and coach assignments.
- Plan and execute tryouts and major events.
- Coordinate competition schedules and coach assignments.
- Collaborate with Team Leads on seasonal and daily practice plans.
- 5+ years' experience coaching and leading competitive youth climbing teams, including extensive experience coaching athletes at USAC Nationals.
- 5+ years' experience mentoring and developing competitive youth team coaches.
- Proven leadership, community building, and communication skills.
- Deep understanding of youth athlete development and competition structure (USAC/IFSC).
- Experience with program management, scheduling, and budgeting.
- USAC Coaching Level 2 Certification required (paid for by Movement).
- This includes active First Aid/CPR and SafeSport certification (paid for by Movement)
- Experience setting for youth competitive athletes and competitions strongly preferred
