The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment. The Department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots as well as abandoned vehicles from City streets.
The Bureau of Public Affairs seeks a Digital Communications Coordinator. Reporting to the Director of Communications within the Bureau of Public Affairs, the Digital Communications Coordinator is the Department’s lead on social media communications, both proactive and reactive. The Digital Communications Coordinator’s responsibilities include but are not limited to;

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. The Bureau of Public Affairs seeks a Digital Communications Coordinator. Reporting to the Director of Communications within the Bureau of Public Affairs, the Digital Communications Coordinator is the Department’s lead on social media communications, both proactive and reactive. The Digital Communications Coordinator’s responsibilities include but are not limited to;
- Planning, monitoring and evaluating social media communications on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Linkedin, as well as identifying new platforms as they emerge.
- Creating video content for the Department’s community initiatives and campaigns.
- Communicating with the public.
- Responding to inquiries and following up both internally and externally.
- Planning, implements, coordinates, monitors and/or evaluates programs providing important community communication.
- Providing an authoritative interpretation of complex problems.
Minimum Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
- High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
- Excellent writing and general communication skills, including experience presenting to large groups. - The ideal candidate has at least 5 years experience in social media, video production, and content creation. - Creativity, collaboration, and attention to detail are all required.
