Job Description
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Compliance and Administration, Bureau of HR and General Business services is seeking a Mail Clerk 2 to join our team!
Responsibilities
Responsible for sorting all incoming mail for the Department of Health and Human Services in the
Hoover and Lucas Buildings. Sort properly addressed mail by division or unit. Open generic mail (mail
addressed to the Department of Health and Human Services) and improperly addressed mail to
determine where it goes and route accordingly. Separate HHS internal mail from Local mail and first
class mail. Investigate mail-related complaints as appropriate.
Working with Storekeeper 3, open all incoming receipts and sort by predetermined account type and
then logging in a spreadsheet. Reconciles the count and dollar amount received with the Storekeeper 3.
Take any cash received immediately to Cashier's Office and obtain an official receipt. It should be
noted that over $7 million are processed each month through the Mail Unit.
Receive and sign for all special delivery (signature) mail. Record on mail delivery log and deliver to
addressee. Obtain addressee signature on log for tracking purposes. All signature mail to be delivered same day as received .
Serves as the Department expert on training and instructing employees on all mail related software and processes.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
- One year of full-time work experience processing mail.
- Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of work as a Mail Clerk 1.
Additional Qualification Requirements
- Some positions in this class may require the possession of a valid Iowa driver's license.
- Some positions in this class may require an applicant to have the ability to pass a background investigation.
