Scientist - Synthetic Chemistry

We are seeking a highly-skilled and enthusiastic Scientist - Synthetic Chemistry to join Vilya’s Chemistry team in South San Francisco. This full-time onsite position will play a key role in expanding our platform technology and advancing orally available macrocycles into the clinic.

Responsibilities

• Design, synthesis, purification, and characterization of high value building blocks, intermediates, and macrocycles
• Evaluation and implementation of state of the art synthetic methodologies for the design and synthesis of novel chemical structures
• Optimization of chemical matter for key medicinal chemistry parameters including solubility, permeability, potency, stability, and pharmacokinetics
• Advancement of discovery projects through effective collaboration and communication with all members of the Vilya team
• May assist with management of CROs
• Provide regular progress updates to the chemistry and cross-functional research teams
• Effective written communication as required for patent filings, company reports, and scientific publications
• Maintain an accurate and detailed electronic lab notebook
• Adherence to all safety and environmental regulations
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry
• 0-5 years post-PhD experience in an academic, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical setting
• Expertise in the synthesis, purification, and characterization of complex organic small molecules
• Expertise in organic small molecule synthetic methodology development and reaction optimization
• Enthusiasm for collaboration and problem-solving across departments, including Analytical Chemistry, Biology, DMPK, and Computational Chemistry
• Experience with solution- and/or solid-phase peptide synthesis is preferred but not required
• Impeccable scientific integrity
• Scientifically curious and eager to learn
• Desire to help build a high-functioning, collaborative chemistry team

• Salary Range: $118,000 - $140,000 / year
