Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Lenexa, KS, OR Broomfield, CO

GBA, a professional, full-service architectural and engineering firm, is seeking an experienced electrical design engineer with strong technical skills in pharmaceutical facility design for our Life Sciences group, located in our Lenexa, KS, or Broomfield, CO offices. The candidate should have proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and electrical analysis software. Experience with cleanroom electrical systems, critical power distribution, and FDA-regulated facilities preferred. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams are essential. Candidates with experience in biotech, pharmaceutical manufacturing, advanced therapy facilities, industrial manufacturing, or other adjacent markets may be suitable. Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed electrical design construction drawings and specifications for permit covering cleanroom facilities, manufacturing suites, and laboratory environments
  • Create electrical power distribution designs for critical manufacturing equipment and cleanroom systems
  • Design lighting systems for pharmaceutical manufacturing areas, including emergency lighting and egress systems
  • Perform electrical load calculations and power system analysis for biopharmaceutical facilities
  • Conduct, coordinate arc flash / short circuit studies
  • Develop electrical utility matrices and coordinate with process, mechanical, and automation disciplines
  • Prepare electrical design narratives and basis-of-design documents for client review
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with FDA, EU, and other regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical facilities
  • Conduct facility evaluations, assessments, engineering studies, and trouble shooting reports
  • Coordinate electrical design with architectural and structural disciplines
  • Develop electrical specifications for equipment procurement and installation
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews of electrical design documents
  • Assist in electrical system troubleshooting
  • Participate in design reviews and client presentations
  • Mentor junior electrical engineers and designers
  • Stay current with electrical codes, standards, and pharmaceutical industry best practices
  • Support proposal development and technical presentations for business development
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors and contractors during design development
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for electrical systems and equipment
  • Provide project management for multi-disciplinary teams, including financial management of project budgets
  • Act as Client, Owner, and Contractor interface on select projects

Requirements:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years of electrical engineering experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences facilities
  • Proficiency in electrical design software, including Revit, AutoCAD, SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or similar electrical analysis software
  • Deep understanding of electrical codes, including NEC, NFPA 70, and NFPA 99
  • Familiarity with uninterruptible power systems (UPS) and emergency power systems
  • Strong technical writing skills for specifications and design documentation
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in design work
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary project teams
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • 10-15% travel for client meetings and site visits
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software – Word, Excel, Outlook

Salary: $175,000 - $190,000
