Position Summary
The Staff Accountant will assist in managing daily accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, payables, payroll support, and monthly close processes. The ideal candidate will be proactive in identifying opportunities for process improvement and analytical in solving financial challenges. This role ensures the accuracy of financial records, supports audit and compliance activities, and assists with the preparation of financial statements for internal and external stakeholders. This position is an Exempt position and can work remote one day out of the week.

Core Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Help ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies and procedures.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and ensure all discrepancies are addressed.
- Maintain the general ledger and perform monthly reconciliations of assigned accounts.
- Record journal entries for month-end close and other ad hoc entries as needed.
- Update and maintain the fixed asset register and record monthly depreciation entries in compliance with organizational policies.
- Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing and related reporting.
- Assist with the preparation of audit schedules and documentation for annual audits.
- Prepare checks and manage accounts payable as needed.
- Perform additional tasks/projects as assigned by the Controller.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all Company policies and procedures as applicable.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Three or more years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.
- Non-profit accounting experience is a plus.
- Valid California driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and eligibility to drive for the Company preferred.
- CPA certification or in-progress certification is a plus, but not required.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting software.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with payroll systems, preferably UKG.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
- Knowledge of non-profit accounting principles, including GAAP, ASC 842 lease accounting, and compliance with Federal, State, Local taxes
- See well enough (with or without corrected vision) to read fine print, hand-written materials, and a computer screen.
- Speak and hear well enough (with or without assistive device) to converse in person and by telephone.
- Finger, handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms, including ability to use a computer keyboard.
- Have the mobility (with or without assistive device) to stand, sit, crouch, and move from one work area to another.
- Have the strength to lift, carry or push office equipment and supplies used in normal job functions up to 20 lbs.
- Stamina to effectively perform work activities.
