Staff Accountant II

Overview 

The Staff Accountant II plays a key role in supporting the financial health and integrity of United Way of Weld County by performing advanced accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, grant and fund accounting, financial reporting, and audit preparation. This position has a particular emphasis on grant and fund accounting, helping the finance and program departments to actively manage private foundation, state, and federal funding contracts. This position ensures compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and donor restrictions, while contributing to the organization’s mission of building powerful partnerships to bring about lasting community-wide change.



Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Track and report on restricted and unrestricted funds, grants, and contracts in accordance with donor and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide financial support to program staff, including grant budget monitoring and reporting.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including monthly journal entries and account analysis. This includes maintaining and reconciling grants receivable and grants deferred revenue accounts as well as reconciling grant balances.
  • Perform post-award activities including fund source code creation in MIP Abila (financial software), invoice preparation and drawdown requests, recording award revenues, expenses, deferred revenue, and grant receivables.
  • Perform quality control reviews of data entered into the financial system to ensure compliance and accuracy of grant-related transactions.
  • Reconcile grants receivable and deferred revenue by fund source code based on invoices sent, cash receipts received, and expenses incurred in the general ledger. Record any adjusting transaction entries needed into the financial system based on these reconciliation
  • Process grant-closeout functions and inactivate fund source code in MIP Abila at end of grant cycle.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal and external stakeholders, specifically related to grants.
  • Assist with annual audit preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and nonprofit financial
  • regulations.
  • Process salary allocations journal entries including salaries, benefits, payroll taxes, occupancy and shared expenditures.
  • Assist with accounts receivable and cash management functions.


United Way of Weld County General  

  • Support and promote the mission, values, goals and objectives of UWWC, including representing United Way in professional organizations and the community (as assigned). 
  • Support United Way disaster response, and other activities as assigned. 
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-service opportunities. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

  • CPA or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years’ financial grant activity experience
  • 3+ years’ nonprofit experience
  • Experience with accounting software; MIP Abila preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite


POSITION INFORMATION 

  • Full-time (40 hours), non-exempt 
  • Pay Range (S2): 59,137-70,674 per year
  • Supervisory duties: N/A 
  • Reports to: Senior Staff Accountant
  • Location: Greeley, CO  
  • Eligible for remote work: Hybrid, 20% remote after 90 days of employment with supervisors’ approval.
  • Background and credit check required
