Works under minimal supervision, sets-up and operates machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to machine parts to specifications required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set-up and operation of machine tools such as manual and CNC mills and lathes or grinders to machine parts to specifications without supervision.
- Verifies conformance of parts to specifications, using measuring instruments.
- Analyzes written specifications, drawings, rough sketches, shop drawings and verbal instructions to plan layout and determine sequence of operations for machining processes.
- 3D modeling and Cam experience.
- Build fixtures and tooling for prototype parts and equipment.
- Selects metal stock and lays out design according to dimensions computed from scale drawings.
- Have understanding of multi-view drawings.
- Reports immediately all suspicious and hazardous conditions to a supervisor.
- Understands and observes all safety guidelines and assure quality and safety by complying with all appropriate CB policies and procedures.
- Assists in maintaining clean, orderly and hazard-free work areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the following competencies:
- Ability to use micrometers, calipers, drop gages and comparators
- Able to hold tolerances plus minus .0001 inch.
- Strong shop mathematics, including geometry, algebra and trigonometry.
- Extensive experience reading drawings, understanding tolerancing. Drafting experience preferred.
- Must be able to read and decipher measuring equipment, scales and readouts.
- Able to follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Able to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter and be detail oriented.
- Minimum of High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.) required
- 7 yrs toolmaking experience and 2 yrs vocational training preferred
- Machine Tool Technology certification, Manufacturing Technician (MT1), National Insitute of Metalworking Skills, Inc. (NIMS) Certified CNC Setup Programmer, or equivalent experience preferred.
- CNC mill, lathe, programming and CAM software background.
- Light physical effort equal to frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Use of hand/fingers continuously through shift to manipulate components, tools, etc.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly required to sit or stand for the length of shift, bend and reach.
- Able to hear typical verbal instructions and common mechanical noises indicative of safe practices.
- Communicates respectfully to all team members, vendors, and visitors.
- Models a positive attitude.
- Actively listens to others and supports the team environment.
- Asks questions and learns from mistakes.
- Executes tasks with minimal errors in a timely and efficient manner.
- Attendance is consistent and meets or exceeds company standards.
