Description

With 17 facilities in Northern, Central, and Southern California, Muir Wood is a residential and outpatient treatment program designed for teen boys and girls, ages 12-17, with mental health and substance use disorders. In our safe, comfortable, and structured environments, our compassionate clinicians help teens explore and process sensitive issues while learning to manage their lives in productive ways. We provide high-quality Joint Commission-accredited residential treatment, creating an environment where teens and their families feel cared-for, valued, and engaged. Our academic program is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). We are in-network with Anthem, Aetna, Cigna, Kaiser Permanente, MHN, Magellan, Halcyon, and Optum, making our exceptional brand of teen treatment accessible to as many families as possible. Our guiding philosophy emphasizes kindness and compassion over confrontation and control.

The primary purpose of the Academic Assistant is to provide academic instruction during the week to Muir Wood clients, collaborate with their home schools and parents, and actively participate with the treatment team as amember of the Muir Wood residential treatment program.

Requirements

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Develop an Individual Education Plan for each client of Muir Wood in collaboration with their parents, home school, instructors, and school district
  • Provide individual tutoring to clients in need of 1:1 educational needs
  • Complete weekly progress reports for parent/authorized representative of client
  • Conduct comprehensive academic assessments for each client as indicated
  • Notify the Clinical Director and treatment team of all behavioral concerns and thoroughly document incidents in the client's file
  • Participate in educational and cultural outings for clients
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings as needed
  • Professionally, ethically, and compassionately relate to clients and peers at all times
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Academics and Clinical Director

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Teaching experience in a classroom environment, preferably in a high school or special education setting
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Knowledge of the philosophy and approach of the 12-step model of recovery (AA, NA, Al-Anon, etc.) strongly preferred
