The Role: VP of Digital Rights & Collections

As a VP of Digital Rights & Collections at Symphonic Distribution, You will spearhead initiatives to maximize performance revenue domestically and globally while ensuring operational excellence, audit readiness, and future scalability. This is a key role at the intersection of rights management, royalties, publishing, and strategic technology adoption (including AI initiatives).

What will you do //

Digital Performance Collection (SoundExchange & U.S. Performance Rights)

  • Lead all aspects of SoundExchange management including registrations, catalog integrity, data cleanup, account optimization, and auditing.
  • Leverage programs such as TLC audits and historical claims recovery to boost revenue collection.
  • Identify inefficiencies in current SoundExchange processes and implement automation or improved workflows.
  • Explore partnerships or internal solutions to enhance SoundExchange performance without losing monthly reporting transparency.


International Neighboring Rights Strategy

  • Develop and execute a roadmap to expand international neighboring rights collection, addressing limitations of the current SoundExchange international mandate.
  • Evaluate and potentially build direct partnerships with international CMOs (e.g. PPL, GVL, SENA, etc.).
  • Conduct diligence on third-party administrators—balancing performance uplift against loss of direct reporting/control.
  • Launch and maintain scalable, transparent, and efficient processes for tracking, claiming, and collecting Neighboring Rights revenue globally.


Publishing Administration Support

  • Assist the publishing team with metadata management, works registration, income tracking, and royalty processing.
  • Support audits and optimize integrations with publishing collection societies (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, HFA, MLC, etc.).
  • Act as a strategic partner to ensure publishing operations scale with our client base.


Strategic Technology & AI Initiatives

  • Partner with leadership and product/tech teams on AI-driven solutions for metadata matching, rights claims, catalog ingestion, and audit flagging.
  • Identify use cases and help train AI models using internal datasets (SoundExchange, PROs, publishing metadata).
  • Stay current on AI and rights tech trends to advise on build vs. buy decisions.


What you need to have //

  • 5–10+ years in performance rights management, digital collections, or neighboring rights—preferably in a hybrid label/distributor/administrator role.
  • Deep understanding of SoundExchange, including TLC programs and administrative nuances.
  • Experience launching or working with international Neighboring Rights collection mandates.
  • Knowledge of publishing administration, including society rules and royalty flows.
  • Familiarity with AI tools, automation workflows, or analytics in the context of music rights and royalties.
  • Proven track record of building scalable rights administration processes.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor evaluation skills (for evaluating admins/tech partners).

  • This position will report to the Chief Creative Officer
  • This position will often collaborate with other stakeholders, including the Chief Executive Officer and VP of Product
