SALARY: $40,286 - $53,813 (Salary Step System)

REPORTS TO: Commissioner of Buildings through the Executive Assistant
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: N/A
Essential Functions
Performs a range of administrative and clerical services including but not limited to greeting and directing visitors, entering permit information from building, plumbing and gas applications, answering and transferring phone calls, enters or scans purchase orders in to the department's database management system, and maintains department records such as wiring, plumbing and gas permits.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE
Must have a High School diploma or a minimum of one to three (1-3) years prior work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Functions

- Provides information to the public concerning requirements for filings (building and sign permits, additions, new construction, etc.) plot plans, and zoning requirements.
- Processes certificates of inspections;
- Files correspondence;
- Prepares building and occupancy permit forms and other related documents in accordance with established standard operating procedures and policies.
- Reviews on-line permit applications and takes on-line building property requests.
- Required to receive and process fees and other departmental receipts.
- Conducts independent research on the legal use of City property;
- Accepts and processes building permit applications;
- Checks contractor licenses to ensure that they are accurate and up-to-date.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of the City's zoning and building permit rules and regulations, department office procedures including the recording of purchase orders, department operating policies and procedures;
- Knowledge of technology including but not limited to office software (word processing and spread sheet applications), financial database management software (i.e. Munis), and use of the Internet and email systems in support of department operations.
- Ability to plan and prioritize work, and perform multiple tasks in a detailed, organized, and timely manner;
- Ability to work independently, and to be self-motivated.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff.
- Proficient customer service skills; proficient written and oral communication skills. Proficient data processing and personal computer keyboarding skills.
