About The Role
We are seeking a Senior Operations Manager to spearhead our closed-course testing and technical operations at our state-of-the-art facility in Las Vegas. The closed course team plays a pivotal role in driving the success of Nuro’s hardware, software, and commercialization objectives. As the primary on-site leader, you will be instrumental in overseeing our R&D testing endeavors and introducing new features and vehicle platforms. This role is paramount, requiring extensive expertise in team leadership, management, strategic planning, unwavering customer focus, technical proficiency, and resolute execution.

About The Work
- Oversee autonomous vehicles, managers, and test operators, ensuring paramount safety, performance, and efficiency.
- Set clear expectations, manage performance, and cultivate your team through dedicated coaching and mentorship.
- Serve as the primary point of escalation, advocating for your team and collaborating effectively across Hardware, Software, Autonomy, Product, Legal, and senior leadership.
- Drive strategy, OKRs, and organizational design, aligning team goals with Nuro’s overarching company objectives.
- Foster a culture of safety, inclusion, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate strong judgment, independently solving complex cross-functional problems and influencing key stakeholders with minimal oversight.
- Build scalable systems and processes, identify and develop top talent, and champion career advancement and team resilience.
- Provide technical leadership and direction to first-line supervisors, upholding operational excellence and promoting a safety-centric, inclusive, performance-driven, and transparent culture through exemplary leadership.
- Collaborate with and provide feedback to various teams on new vehicle integration, testing, software development, external demonstrations, and partner visits.
- Lead strategic planning for the closed course team to ensure the development, achievement, and tracking of OKRs and KPIs.
- Experienced Business and Operations Leader: Over 5+ years of management experience, specializing in continuous improvement, data-driven decision-making, mentoring, managing managers of managers, and leading a diverse team.
- Strategic and Relationship-Oriented: Skilled in navigating technical and business complexities, with a focus on building strong internal and external relationships. Proficient in leading major initiatives for clients and managing large stakeholder groups with oftentimes competing priorities.
- Customer-Centric and Collaborative: Dedicated to ensuring customer success and understanding partner needs at all levels. Effective at managing multiple projects, processes, and teams simultaneously. Proactive in identifying and resolving challenges to drive team success.
- Resourceful and Effective Communicator: Willing to take hands-on approaches to drive partner and team success. Possesses strong stakeholder management, communication, and coaching skills. Comfortable working cross-functionally and with stakeholders at all levels.
- Adaptable and Solutions-Driven: Thrives in ambiguous environments and enjoys being part of innovative teams. Solution-oriented with a focus on delivering results through practical approaches.
- People Developer with Strategic Focus: Invests in team growth and development as the business expands. Works cross-functionally to establish goals, milestones, and metrics of success. Owns execution and collaborates closely with other operational teams, product, engineering, commercial, and policy stakeholders. Engages deeply with software and hardware engineering teams to solve on-the-ground technical challenges and translate insights into actionable strategies for product development and strategy.
- Safety Focused: Prioritizes safety as a fundamental cornerstone, ensuring it remains at the forefront of all operations.
- You have experience in the Autonomous Vehicle industry and are deeply familiar with the technical details of AV systems and HW
- You have familiarity and professional experience in machine learning
- You have experience working with both hardware and software
- You have experience in assessing safety risks and controlling those risks to meet mission requirements
