Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) advocates with and for Marylanders experiencing poverty to achieve equity and social justice through free civil legal services, community collaboration, and systemic change.

Since 1911, Maryland Legal Aidhas provided high-quality legal aid to vulnerable, low-income people and communities – helping to remedy their civil legal issues and become empowered to overcome challenges, achieve stability and independence, and reach their goals. MLA also identifies and seeks to remedy systemic barriers. MLA’s core work includes eviction and foreclosure prevention, family law, children’s rights, consumer protection, securing public benefits, and access to healthcare. MLA advocates operate primarily through the courts, via individual representation of indigent clients, but also engage in impact litigation, public communication and outreach, and policy advocacy.

Through this holistic approach, Maryland Legal Aid serves to amplify the voices of tens of thousands of economically disadvantaged and vulnerable Marylanders each year and seeks to be a leader in the legal services field nationwide.

Job Summary

MLA’s Data Analytics and Insights Unit seeks to hire one Data Insights Specialist to join our team in Baltimore, MD. We are currently experiencing a period of exciting growth, and this hybrid role will be integral in shaping and planning our future initiatives. As the Data Insights Specialist, you will support department requests related to data research, report visualization, and data collection. The Data Insights Specialist will play a key role in collaborating with the Director of Data Analytics and Insights to optimize processes, systems, and policies for the department's operations. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the field of data science and analytics, along with strong communication skills and an interest in collaborating with a diverse group of technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Duties And Responsibilities

Data Research

  • Conduct data research and analysis to support operational decisions.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and developments to ensure the organization’s analytics are current.

Data Quality

  • Ensure data accuracy and consistency by designing and creating optimal processes and procedures.

Data Analytics

  • Apply statistical techniques, data mining, and visualization tools to analyze data and identify trends, patterns, and insights.

Data Insights

  • Gather data from various sources, cleaning, and transforming it into a usable format for analysis.

Data Visualization and Reporting

  • Present findings and insights in a clear and understandable way through reports, dashboards, and presentations.
  • Develop and implement data visualization techniques to present findings in an easy-to-understand format.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for executive, legal and operational leadership.

Process Development

  • Create predictive models, forecasting models, or other analytical frameworks to address organizational challenges and opportunities.
  • Translate data insights into actionable recommendations and strategies.
  • Periodically, implement their recommended analytics as part of organizational solutions.

Stakeholder Management

  • Manage special data projects, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of results.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Data Analytics to understand and prioritize requests.
  • Effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with teams across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field and/or one to three years’ experience in data analysis and visualization.
  • Experience with business intelligent tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker Studio, or similar.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other project management related software.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and recognizing the ways race and other identities intersect in the workplace.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with marginalized communities.
  • Ability to travel throughout the State of Maryland and to national conferences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with machine learning and predictive analytics.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Familiarity with database management systems like SQL.
  • Experience in a consulting environment.
  • Strong project management skills.

Salary, Benefits, Schedule

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000, based on experience. In addition, MLA provides employees with a generous benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, a 401(k)retirement plan, 3 weeks paid time off, paid sick leave, 14 annual paid holidays, and more!
