The Director of Program & Specialized Initiatives oversees the delivery of high-quality programming across all Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford sites and leads the development of strategic partnerships, specialized initiatives, and volunteer programs. This role ensures that programs and partnerships align with the mission, goals, and expectations of BGCH and BGCA, while also focusing on staff training and continuous quality improvement.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Manage the implementation and delivery of programs, services, and activities that facilitate achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
- Supervise Club Directors and other assigned staff, setting performance and outcome expectations, providing career guidance, and offering regular feedback.
- Manage the implementation and maintenance of specialized initiatives, partnerships, and volunteer programs, ensuring a quality experience for all.
- Oversee the coordination and onboarding of volunteers at all sites, ensuring compliance with all safety policies and protocols.
- Develop partnerships with key stakeholders and other community organizations that align with BGCH's mission and goals.
- Act as a liaison between Program (Club & School sites) and our Director of Corporate Engagement for corporate group volunteer opportunities.
- Lead program quality assessment and continuous improvement efforts; recommend modifications to strengthen outcomes.
- Oversee the implementation and delivery of national program initiatives and events.
- Ensure proper utilization of MyClubHub database for program tracking and reporting.
- Assist VPs of Program Services, Facilities & Safety, and Human Resources with overall risk management, focusing on compliance (i.e. DCF licensing, mandatory trainings, incident reports, etc.)
- All other duties as assigned by the VP of Program Services
- Lead the development and implementation of relevant and effective programming, across the organization, that addresses the needs and interests of Club members.
- Provide coaching and training to staff to ensure quality program delivery and achievement of desired outcomes, adherence to safety and ethics standards, as well as how to ensure quality partnership and volunteer experiences.
- Act as employee liaison for assigned task forces and committees.
- Stay current on trends and data within BGCA, other youth-serving agencies, and the community at large to address emerging and future programmatic needs for Club members.
- Contribute to operational strategic planning, providing perspective on Club programming, employee development, and member needs to support strategic direction.
- Evaluate overall program and partnership effectiveness based on participation and achievement of stated goals, recommend modifications to improve performance.
- Ensure outcome measurements and data analysis are relevant and drive program improvement and high levels of Club and child safety.
- Identify opportunities for BGCH to leverage cross-program strengths to take advantage of new opportunities and/or address organizational challenges.
- Work with VP of Program Services and Finance to develop and adhere to annual budget as it pertains to areas of focus.
- Ensure all program-specific grants are being implemented appropriately, monitor expenditures against budget, and ensure all compliance-related activity is accurate and timely.
- Collaborate closely with the Development team around grant application and adherence, as well as maximizing donor engagement, to help build and maintain revenue streams.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement staff training that will provide the tools needed to improve program facilitation and outcomes as well as expand knowledge and skill.
- Participate in activities to maintain good public relations for Club programs, services, and activities; help build public trust and excitement for our mission.
- Partner with the Development and Marketing team to increase visibility of BGCH programs, partnerships, volunteer opportunities, and special initiatives.
- Internal: Maintain close contact with the Club Directors as well as colleagues across BGCH, Club members, to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions, instruct, and advise/counsel.
- External: Maintain contact with other Clubs, vendors, consultants, organizations, government agencies and others to achieve objectives, manage costs, share information and resolve problems.
- September – early June: Monday through Friday 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Late June – August: Monday through Friday, eight hours between 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. as designated by supervisor
- Occasional morning and/or evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand
- Work may require local and occasional distant overnight travel.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or 2 years of experience for every college year as an equivalent
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in managing programs or operations in a non-profit agency or Boys and Girls Club; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Thorough knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs, and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs; the principles and practices of managing non-profit organizations; and resource development activities and sources of funding
- Demonstrated ability to plan and implement effective programming
- Demonstrate financial management and budgeting skills
- Leadership skills, including negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to utilize the latest technology to enhance the growth of an organization
