Pay:

  • Hiring Range: $1,585.60 - $1,982.00 Biweekly
  • Pay Range: $1,585.60 - $2,378.40 Biweekly

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science/equivalent coursework or on-the-job experience including verifiable knowledge in the installation and troubleshooting of computer software, hardware, and networking. Additional networking experience preferred.
  • At least 2 years working in a Public Library setting with direct patron service preferred.

Hours:

  • 40-hour work week - typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
  • Required to meet schedule demands for seven-day operation of Information Technology Services which involves a flexible schedule, evenings, and weekends as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of Mac, Windows operating systems.
  • Basic understanding of network equipment and infrastructure, VoIPs, and employee accounts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstration of character and integrity in all situations while upholding SJCPL’s ethical standards.
  • Continuing professional development.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Required to have the technical expertise to manage the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, and networks.
  • Physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift, and move equipment (up to 60 lbs.)
  • Spanish language skills preferred.

Essential Job Duties

Working under the direct supervision of the IT Manager and with a dedication to equity and inclusion, the person in this position will perform the following:

  • Select, recommend for purchase, deploy, and repair computer hardware, software, printers, copiers, fax machines, phones, and all related items.
  • Manage the library’s inventory of physical hardware, subscriptions, and software licenses.
  • Help administer the library's electronic resources and cloud based applications including implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of these platforms.
  • Plan and schedule new equipment installations, departmental moves, or reorganizations, which may occasionally necessitate work when the Library is closed.
  • Contact vendors/consultants as necessary for cabling/equipment repair, installation, and/or servicing.
  • Monitor and maintain the performance of Library hardware, system and software updates, and network security.
  • Monitor system performance, equipment maintenance, terminal configurations, and other related areas, keeping IT Manager informed when appropriate.
  • Assist in the onboarding and offboarding of employees, including managing employee accounts and initial staff training. Regularly update and train departments and library staff on changes in procedures and new library technology systems.
  • Keep up-to-date on developments of innovative library technologies by reading, networking, and attending professional conferences.
  • Actively participate in internal committees and meetings.
  • Act as back-up to other positions in the department as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
