Summary

The Quality Control Manager is responsible for overseeing quality control activities across all facilities to ensure that finished goods comply with internal specifications and customer requirements. This role manages quality control processes at all stages, including incoming material inspections, in-process checks, and final product release. The QC Manager also oversees the QC Hold area (RA), ensures adherence to release protocols, and collaborates with production teams to address non-conformances and reduce defects. Additionally, the role supports training and the continuous development of QC personnel.

Job Purpose

To ensure consistent product quality through robust inspection and testing processes, real-time issue resolution, and continuous monitoring of manufacturing compliance with specifications.

JOB FUNCTIONS (Key Responsibilities)

I. QC Operations & Inspection Oversight

  • Lead incoming, work-in-process and final inspections across all production stages.
  • Develop and manage inspection plans and sampling protocols.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of inspection records.

II. Team Leadership & Training

  • Supervise QC staff across multiple shifts or facilities.
  • Provide training in inspection methods, defect criteria, and equipment use.
  • Monitor and ensure calibration of inspection tools and lab instruments.

III. Product Non-Conformance Management

  • Investigate quality-related holds and in-process defects.
  • Lead the Material Review Board (MRB) process and product disposition.
  • Collaborate with QA and Production on root cause analysis and rework disposition.

IV. Packaging & Labeling Verification

  • Oversee labeling, traceability, and packaging inspections to prevent customer complaints.
  • Ensure that batch, lot, and expiration information are accurate and traceable.
  • Data Management and Reporting
  • Maintain inspection logs and QC dashboards.
  • Report defect trends, scrap rates, and product acceptance rates to management.
  • Recommend process improvements based on inspection data.

VI. Customer Credit Review (QC Input)

  • Provide technical data to accounting for customer credit review and claim validation.
  • Support complaint investigations with inspection and rework records.

VII. Talent Development and Leadership

  • Build and mentor a strong QC team.
  • Assess training needs and support professional development for QC personnel.

Education, Experience & Competencies

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in quality assurance, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field.
  • Advanced coursework or certifications preferred. (e.g. Six Sigma, ASQ CQE)

Experience

  • Minimum of 6-10 years of experience in quality control or manufacturing quality assurance roles.
  • At least three years in managerial capacity overseeing QC inspectors or technicians.
  • assurance, auditing, or production management, preferably within the corrugated or packaging industry.
  • Experience working in high-volume manufacturing environments in corrugated, flexographic and digital printing, and/or conversion operations.
  • Demonstrated experience with inspection planning, sampling plans, non-conformance investigation, and product disposition.

Core Competencies

  • Strong understanding of quality control principles, inspection tools, and sampling techniques (e.g. AQL, visual standards, micrometers).
  • Proficiency in managing inspection records, defect tracking, and quality dashboards.
  • Effective leadership and training skills with the ability to develop and assess inspector competency.
  • Solid problem-solving and root cause analysis skills; able to lead MRB and rework disposition processes.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, experience with ERP or QMS software.

  • Work environment includes front-office and manufacturing. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Ability to travel frequently to various facilities in Los Angeles as required.
