Investigative Analyst

Starting Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience


The State Corporation Commission’s (SCC) Bureau of Insurance (BOI) seeks an Investigative Analyst interested in a rewarding public service career. The Investigative Analyst works in BOI’s Agent Regulation Division and conducts research and analysis in support of three investigation sections – Property and Casualty, Life and Health, and Real Estate Settlement Agents (RESA). Additional responsibilities of the Investigative Analyst position are below:


  • Supporting investigators in determining the validity of complaints against insurance agents, agencies, and companies
  • Receiving and responding timely and accurately to requests for assistance from BOI field investigators that require synthesizing information by combining diverse pieces of data from multiple sources to analyze and interpret information, including employment history, driving and vehicle records, and court case information and background histories of investigative subjects
  • Conducting searches uses multiple databases and tools and logging all searches for audit purposes
  • Organizing research into a cohesive product to support the investigations
  • Corresponding regularly with various internal parties and external agencies
  • Collecting, evaluating, and analyzing financial data
  • Conducting and documenting interviews with complainants and agents
  • Performing in-depth file reviews and collecting general background data
  • Preparing detailed investigative reports, analysis, and evidentiary documents
  • Occasionally presenting cases to counsel and/or to local, state and federal law enforcement agencies
  • Performing related work as required


The Investigative Analyst position offers a hybrid work schedule (some in-office and telework days each week) as well as a variety of professional development and training opportunities. Some limited travel within the state and occasional travel outside of the state (including some overnight travel) may be required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience conducting investigative analysis
  • A bachelor’s degree plus roughly two years of related experience or in lieu of a degree, roughly six years of related experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to compile and present information in a logical format for presentation
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills and the ability to review and analyze financial information and documents
  • Ability to conduct basic investigations and interviews
  • Ability to learn and apply laws, regulations and regulatory requirements to assigned cases
  • Ability to multi-task and keep multiple initiatives moving forward simultaneously
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships both within the SCC and with multiple external agencies and organizations
  • Ability to learn software application designed to track the flow of insurance funds
  • Ability to gain proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, social media platforms, and with Open Source intelligence gathering
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with SCC staff, outside agencies, and HBE vendors and partners
