Description
This person is expected to understand and respect the City Mission’s Statement of Faith. The Head Chef will be responsible for preparing high-quality meals that nourish our guests and reflect the hospitality and care at the heart of our work. The Head Chef will support and guide Mission Works participants and volunteers in the kitchen, while working closely with the Dining Center Supervisor to ensure a smooth and welcoming meal service. This position will report directly to the Dining Center Supervisor.
Specific Responsibilities
Qualifications and Skills:

The Head Chef will be responsible for preparing high-quality meals that nourish our guests and reflect the hospitality and care at the heart of our work. The Head Chef will support and guide Mission Works participants and volunteers in the kitchen, while working closely with the Dining Center Supervisor to ensure a smooth and welcoming meal service. This position will report directly to the Dining Center Supervisor.
Specific Responsibilities
- Serve as lead cook during daily meal preparation
- Ensure all food safety regulations are followed
- Inspect the quality of the food
- Assist in the Mission Works Program in the mentoring and training of participants
- Work alongside and support kitchen volunteers, helping them feel valued and engaged
- Assist with maintaining a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule for all kitchen areas and equipment; ensuring a high standard of sanitation, cleanliness and safety in all areas.
- Collaborate with Dining Center Supervisor on menu execution
- Contribute to a positive, respectful, and team-oriented kitchen environment
- Willing to participate in various rotating shifts, including weekend and evening coverage
- Represent City Mission’s values in all interactions
Qualifications and Skills:
- 3-5 years’ experience in Kitchen leadership preferred
- ServSafe credentialed, or willing and able obtain the certification within 30 days from the start of employment
- Ability to work with and be sensitive with people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to set the model in upholding positive culture
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Have a clean driving record
- High school diploma /GED
- Prolonged periods of standing on hard surfaces
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
