Job Summary
The Sales AutoCAD Drafter is responsible for preparing accurate technical documentation and visual representations in support of sales and installation teams. This includes creating as-built drawings, system zone maps, floor plans, and point-to-point diagrams for submittals, as well as performing battery calculations and verifying code compliance. The role involves direct communication with code officials, sales staff, and technicians, as well as occasional site visits to validate technical details.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Prepare and finalize required pre- and post-submittal documentation, including as-built drawings and system zone maps.
- Communicate via phone to verify codes and gather additional information for the submittals.
- Develop detailed floor plans and point-to-point diagrams to support system documentation.
- Perform battery calculations and compile relevant technical data to ensure system compliance and functionality.
- Assist the sales team in identifying proper device placement and layout.
- Maintain and manage the plotter to ensure proper functioning of the printers.
- Collaborate with installation technicians to verify system setups and specifications.
- Provide guidance and education to the sales team regarding code compliance and technical questions.
- Interpret and apply NFPA guidelines and other relevant codes during the design and documentation process.
- Conduct occasional site visits to verify project details and ensure accuracy of submitted information.
- Responsible for onsite duties as assigned.
- Must be punctual and adhere to attendance standards.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Drafting or a related field is a plus.
- Minimum of 1 year of Auto CAD experience is required.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, drafting, and design techniques.
- Knowledgeable in NFPA72, Life Safety 101, and IFC Fire Codes.
- Understanding of low voltage systems and applications.
- EST product line knowledge.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively across multiple tasks.
- Capable of analyzing design sketches and specifications to produce accurate technical drawings.
- High attention to detail to ensure precision and compliance with specifications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with fire departments, architects, engineers, and other industry professionals.
- Skilled in managing time and prioritizing tasks to meet competing project deadlines.
- Solid understanding of engineering practices and industry standards.
- Advanced mathematical skills for accurate calculations and design adjustments.
- Self-motivated with a strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
- Interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships with employees, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
- Have or be willing to obtain NICET Level 1 Certification is required.
- Must be able to obtain a Permanent Employee Registration Card from the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (Illinois employees only).
- Maintain a driver’s license, maintain an insurable driving record, and be capable of driving on company assignments.
