Brief Description
Kitchell is seeking an experienced and dedicated Design Manager to join our Central California region in Fresno and build a long-term career at one of the most innovative and growth-oriented building companies in the United States.
Overview
Work in collaboration with the Program Manager, the District, and the assigned design architects to develop project charters, program statements, interim housing plans, design deliverables schedules, review and update District design standards, conduct design quality assurance program and manage the architects’ performance.

Education and Experience
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly work in an office and or construction environment. Conditions regularly include exposure to outdoor elements, hot/cold temperatures, wet conditions, noise, atmospheric conditions, and cramped quarters. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, stand, walk, talk or hear and use hands to finger, feel and handle; frequently reach with hands and arms; occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must frequently lift and or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds.

The annual base salary range for this role is currently $165,000 - $173,000. The Company’s salary ranges are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of various factors, including job-related skills, relevant education and experience, abilities of the applicant and equity with other team members. Overview
Work in collaboration with the Program Manager, the District, and the assigned design architects to develop project charters, program statements, interim housing plans, design deliverables schedules, review and update District design standards, conduct design quality assurance program and manage the architects’ performance.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide design management services on (DSA) k-12 programs.
- Act as an Owner’s Representative with direct client facing responsibilities.
- Collaborate with district leadership, site administrators, and community stakeholders.
- Develop and monitor preconstruction schedules and budgets to ensure alignment with program goals and fiscal constraints.
- Identify and mitigate design risks, including schedule delays, permitting hurdles, and budget overruns.
- Ensure all designs support long-term sustainability goals, ADA accessibility, and DSA/code compliance.
- Simultaneously manage the design for multiple projects located across multiple campus sites.
- Manage and supervise a team of design professionals and other professionals through the design review process.
- Oversight of contracts, drawings, estimates, and specifications to ensure compliance to project requirements.
- Responsible for quality control and assurance of projects in design.
- Conduct project meetings and provide documentation, administration, and tracking of relevant information.
- Ensure architects and engineers adhere to contractual requirements.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is required, degree in Architecture is highly preferred.
- 10 years of progressive and position related work experience in project and construction management is required.
- Experience in Education/Division of State Architect(DSA) market sector in California is required.
- Well-versed in multiple delivery methods such as Design-Build, Design Bid Build, CM multi-prime, strongly preferred.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Project Suite of tools is required.
- User knowledge of Bluebeam and Procore are preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the advanced ability to foster and maintain effective interpersonal relationships is required.
- Ability to provide leadership and management support is required.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record, free from suspensions or restrictions is required.
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential is preferred.
- LEED professional accreditation is preferred.
