Position Summary

We are seeking a creative, adaptable, and strategic Copywriter to join our Marketing & Communications team. This role plays a key part in shaping how our audiences experience the organization through language. With a primary focus on crafting engaging, persuasive, and brand-aligned marketing copy for performances and events, while also supporting institutional and cross-departmental communication needs.

This position is a driver of storytelling initiatives and is responsible for ensuring that content across all platforms aligns with Omaha Performing Arts’ mission, vision, brand, and strategy, helping to reduce barriers to participation. The Copywriter works collaboratively within the marketing team and with all departments to develop creative messaging and written communications for O-pa events and mission-based projects. This position, as well as all positions at O-pa, embody the organizational values of collaboration, trust, team, and integrity, and serves to support O-pa as an organization that serves a diverse, inclusive, and growing audience.

Position Duties And Responsibilities

Show Marketing & Audience Engagement (Primary)

  • Research and write compelling, audience-focused, and energetic copy to promote performances, series, and special events.
  • Collaborate with internal show marketers to understand campaign goals, define target audiences, and align messaging strategies.
  • Develop marketing copy for a wide range of channels, including print materials, digital advertisements, short-form video scripts, email campaigns, and the organization’s website.
  • Tailor messaging by performance, artist, audience segment, and platform to ensure clarity, engagement, and consistency with brand voice.
  • Contribute creative ideas and story angles that enhance campaign effectiveness and drive audience engagement.

Institutional & Cross-Departmental Support (Secondary)

  • Collaborate with the Senior Writer and Content Creator to develop and publish blog articles and create engaging e-newsletters that support organizational storytelling and audience engagement.
  • Support the development and editing of institutional materials such as annual reports, fundraising appeals, internal communications, and content for education and community programs.
  • Audit, maintain, and optimize website content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and ease of use, working closely with relevant departments to ensure alignment and functionality.
  • Conduct keyword research to identify content opportunities and enhance existing web content. Apply SEO best practices to boost visibility and drive organic traffic to the site.

Other Functions

  • Uses the third-party email/contact system to distribute email marketing messages.
  • Always represents O-pa in a professional manner.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Joins marketing department and other O-pa colleagues to provide support at performances and scheduled tabling events throughout the season.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional writing experience in marketing or communications; passion for the performing arts or nonprofit mission-driven work experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of writing across a range of media platforms.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates versatility in voice and style across multiple channels—from compelling long-form stories to concise, action-driven ad copy—all while maintaining a consistent brand voice.
  • Excellent grammar, editing, and proofreading skills with a sharp eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to adapt tone and messaging for different audiences and content platforms.
  • Strong project management and time management skills; able to meet tight deadlines while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to create content that supports larger marketing objectives and organizational goals.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable managing a fast-paced workload with shifting priorities.
  • Collaborative mindset with a diplomatic approach to working cross-functionally and under pressure.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with AP style, grammar standards, social media platforms, digital marketing tools, and video content development.
  • Creative thinker who thrives in brainstorming and collaborative environments, and enjoys shaping clear, impactful communication.

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in English, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Miscellaneous

  • Evening and weekend hours for performance duty are required.
