Overview
Works through the leadership team to provide administrative oversight and direction in the provision of a comprehensive range of services, or clinical care, associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health and facility goals and strategic plan. The Director is given general guidance and direction and is expected to function with initiative and independent judgment. This position organizes, plans, directs and evaluates the hospital's Facilities Engineering Department. This includes staffing and controlling a range of Facility and Support Services activities to accomplish the goals and objectives of assigned department. Initiates continuous Quality Improvement projects on an on-going basis to improve key aspects of service. As part of the hospital's accreditation and compliance program, the Director is responsible for the DNV NIAHO standards, focusing on the physical environment. In addition, responsible for the NFPA life safety and standards requirements. The Director is also responsible for program compliance and relevant building inspections by various regulatory agencies, to include, but not limited to the Air Pollution Control Board, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD), local Fire Departments and OSHA/VOSH, ASHE, ASHRAE, FGI guidelines, and other federal, state and local regulatory bodies. The Director also works with the RHS Construction Management Department to ensure that all new construction and renovation projects meet local and State building codes and are Maintenance friendly. The Director is the Facility Safety Officer, including chairing the hospital's physical environment committee. Responds to emergencies or disasters impacting hospital operations. Oversees compliance of RHS required policies, procedures, and protocols with vendors, trades, or contractors working within the hospital and RHS owned or operated properties. Conducts relevant annual risk assessments.

What You Will Do
- Anticipates, evaluates and implements capital acquisitions and renovation/building projects for assigned area as approved, including development of system purchases, cost analysis, oversight alignment with strategic and operational goals to maintain effective operations and sustainment for growth of services.
- Integrates department/facility operations and services with internal and external departments, to ensure care, services meet the needs of the hospital and community we serve. Routinely partners with all internal stakeholders during routine, capital assessments and disruption of services.
- Leads the development, maintenance and systemization of policies, procedures, programs and services provided by the department.
- Demonstrates and ensures team understands and responds to suggestions and concerns from patients/visitors, personnel, medical staff and leadership with a sense of urgency to suggestions or concerns. Integrates safety huddle participation, and integration of teams, with all hospital departments.
- Ensures program compliance related to scope of responsibilities with DNV NIAHO physical environment and NFPA life safety regulations. Ensures program compliance with other authorities having jurisdiction related to scope of responsibility, i.e. OSHA, DEQ, local Fire Department, and HRSD. Ensures Riverside program compliance with appropriate team members, contractors, and vendors.
- Effectively participates in standardization and efficiency efforts for the hospital and health system, as applicable. Looks for ways to reduce waste, increase timeliness of deliverables, or identifies other benefits related to standardization and efficient operations.
Education
- Bachelors Degree, Engineering, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field. Ten (10) years of related experience accepted in lieu of degree. (Required)
- 5-6 years Facilities Operations or Related Experience (Required)
- 3-4 years Supervisory Experience (Required)
- 2 years Healthcare Environment (Preferred)
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, code requirements, building guidelines and standards.
- Demonstrated leadership on projects providing subject matter expertise and technical directions to others.
- Certified Healthcare Operations Professional - DNV (Required) and
- Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) - American Hospital Association (AHA) (Preferred) and
- Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) - American Hospital Association (AHA) (Preferred)
