Overview
PRS Global Open, the official open access journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, is seeking an Editorial Assistant to support key editorial and administrative functions.
In this role, you’ll work closely with the Editorial Coordinator to support the peer review process, screen manuscript submissions, and communicate with authors and reviewers. You will also assist with customer service inquiries, proof review, and outreach to potential contributors. This position requires strong writing and communication skills, attention to detail, organizational abilities, and a customer-service mindset.
Ideal candidates will bring curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to learn. Experience with Editorial Manager, AMA style, or graphic/photo layout is a plus, and comfort with medical imagery is essential.
Reports to: Managing Editor, PRS Global Open
Supervises: None
Location: Remote
Travel: 2x/yr
What You Will Do
The Editorial Assistant will support the editorial and peer review processes for PRS Global Open, helping ensure the smooth submission, screening, and publication of scholarly manuscripts. Key duties include:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business/Office Management, Journalism/English/Humanities, Communications, Systems Management; Coursework or Training in “persuasive writing” desired
Experience: 1-2 years related experience desired, not necessary
Novice or moderate skillset and training in copyediting and proofreading. Familiarity and experience with AMA Manual of Style is preffered, but not required.
Salary & Benefits
Employment Type: Full Time
Annual Salary: $47,000-55,000
Eligible for Overtime: yes (non-exempt)
Hours per Week: 37.5 hours

What You Will Do
The Editorial Assistant will support the editorial and peer review processes for PRS Global Open, helping ensure the smooth submission, screening, and publication of scholarly manuscripts. Key duties include:
- Screening new, transferred, and revised manuscripts for formatting and policy compliance
- Supporting peer review by assigning reviewers, tracking deadlines, and reviewing comments for quality and adherence to guidelines
- Assisting with manuscript transfers from the parent journal (PRS) and encouraging author engagement
- Coordinating with abstract supplement partners and helping implement targeted outreach strategies
- Assisting with proofreading, formatting checks, and copyediting during peak production times
- Providing customer service to authors and reviewers, managing databases, and handling administrative tasks
- Contributing to special projects such as podcasts, supplements, and digital initiatives, with opportunities for creative involvement based on experience and interest
