Job Overview

Strocchia Iron Works is seeking a confident, self-motivated Entry-Level Project Engineer I to join our Bridgeport, CT team. This full-time, onsite position is ideal for recent graduates with a BS in Construction Engineering, Civil or Structural Engineering Technology, or a related field. You will work alongside seasoned professionals to support the delivery of structural and miscellaneous metals projects—gaining valuable exposure to shop drawings, fieldwork, fabrication processes, and coordination with project stakeholders. This is a hands-on learning opportunity for a passionate and driven future leader in the steel industry.

Our Bridgeport facility houses skilled tradespeople and technical support staff, while our New York office provides field services and project oversight. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update submittal logs for shop drawings, RFIs, NCRs, and QA/QC plans.
  • Assist with reviewing steel shop drawings for design compliance and constructability.
  • Coordinate corrections and approvals with steel detailers and engineers.
  • Perform or assist with field measurements and prepare basic sketches for communication.
  • Submit RFIs and track resolution of design discrepancies and field conflicts.
  • Support fabrication by writing shop orders and preparing related purchase orders.
  • Monitor progress of shop orders and ensure materials and supplies are on-hand.
  • Collaborate with project teams, shop managers, and clients to support on-time delivery.
  • Participate in coordinating steel erection scheduling, site equipment, and manpower needs.
  • Maintain safety logs, tool-box talk documentation, and assist in field QA/QC activities.
  • Assist with field measuring, surveying, and verification of jobsite conditions.
  • Support the preparation and documentation of change orders related to project scope.
  • Engage in ongoing learning, safety training, and steel construction education.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil/Structural/Architectural Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • 1+ year of relevant internship, co-op, or professional experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate within cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated interest in steel construction and structural systems.
  • Ability to manage responsibilities independently and stay organized under deadlines.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred or willingness to complete.
  • Local candidates preferred or willing to relocate to within 30 minutes of Bridgeport, CT.
