Modesto Based

Job Summary: The Driver Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the delivery team, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of food service products to our valued customers across our coverage areas, including Modesto, Bay area, Lodi, Santa Rosa, Sonora and surrounding areas. This role involves managing driver performance, adherence to company policies and DOT regulations, route optimization, and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. The Driver Supervisor plays a critical role in optimizing transportation logistics and fostering a positive and productive work environment for drivers. Hotel stays will be required when visiting domicile yards. Driver supervisors will be required to cover routes and or shuttles on an as-needed basis.

Key Responsibilities: Supervise Driver Operations:

Oversee the daily work and safety of delivery associates, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and planned routes.

Manage and direct delivery staff, providing clear instructions and guidance.

Ensure on-time deliveries and accurate invoices.

Coordinate with warehouse, merchandising, and sales departments for order fulfillment, deliveries, and backhauls.

Schedule drivers and optimize routing for efficiency and cost reduction.

Safety And Compliance

Ensure driver compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies (e.g., DOT, OSHA, FDA food safety standards).

Monitor electronic logs (ELDs), Lytx camera system, and other necessary paperwork (pre-trip/post-trip inspections) for accuracy and completeness.

Conduct accident investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.

Coordinate with the Safety department for ongoing training, conducting associate observations, and updating preferred work methods.

Promote a strong safety culture and ensure drivers operate vehicles and handle products in a safe manner.

Performance Management & Training

Conduct employee evaluations, provide regular feedback, and administer disciplinary actions as needed.

Train new drivers and provide ongoing training for existing associates (e.g., safety, accident reporting, customer service, food safety, product handling).

Monitor driver performance metrics (e.g., productivity, cube per hour, on-time delivery, and on-time departure) and coach drivers to improve performance.

Maintain positive associate relations through regular meetings and open communication.

Fleet Management

Oversee truck maintenance schedules and coordinate required repairs with appropriate departments.

Ensure proper selection and utilization of company assets (vehicles, equipment).

Monitor drive cam footage and provide coaching to drivers based on observations.

Customer Service & Problem Resolution

Communicate proactively with drivers to ensure adherence to daily delivery schedules and departmental performance goals.

Collaborate with Sales Management and Marketing Associates to resolve any customer or delivery issues.

Visit customer locations to address issues and assess delivery difficulties.

Demonstrate strong customer relations and problem-resolution skills.

Administrative & Budgetary

Manage labor hours and consumable supplies within budget.

Prepare work schedules, including extra workdays and shifts as needed.

Review delivery functions and productivity reporting; suggest efficient ideas and assist with the implementation of delivery changes.

Interpret, train, and consistently enforce company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required; some college or a bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience

2-3 years of experience in commercial driving, preferably in food service distribution or logistics.

Previous supervisory experience in a transportation or delivery setting is a strong plus.

Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and DOT requirements.

Skills & Abilities

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to effectively converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs, and respond to official inquiries.

Strong leadership and people management skills, including the ability to motivate, train, and develop a team.

Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Proficient in using transportation management software, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and other relevant technology.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

Knowledge of food safety protocols and procedures is highly desirable.

Ability to work assigned schedule, exhibit regular and predictable attendance, and work outside of the normal schedule as required to meet workload demands.

Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with doubles endorsement is required and beneficial for understanding driver roles.
