About The Role
Museum Educators are responsible for providing enthusiastic, friendly, and knowledgeable assistance to museum visitors. They interact with visitors on the floor, facilitate interactive activities, and foster a welcoming environment for volunteers and the public. They provide customer service support, are knowledgeable about museum content, exhibits, and programs, and maintain daily gallery operations and appearance. They are responsible for facilitating Education Department programs such as school tours, highlight tours, workshops, and outreach lessons. In some cases, they may be asked to assist with or develop new programs to be utilized during school tours or in the Discovery Center.
This role is required to work Sunday-Thursday from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. Some additional weekend and after hours work are optional.

What You'll Do
Guest Relations
- Learning about and educating the public on the museum collection
- Providing an engaging, educational, and memorable experience for all guests
- Providing direction and guidance to visitors concerning all galleries and exhibits including cars from previous exhibitions that are no longer on display
- Ensuring that objects and collection items are maintained and protected
- Performing crowd control during peaks times
- Train new gallery attendants and educators on proper procedures and behaviors while in the galleries
- Working in tandem with Security and Event staff to ensure guest safety and compliance
- Assisting visitors with Discovery Center activities and experiences including but not limited to Reading Roadsters, Weekend Activities, Petersen Labs, and other Discovery Center experiences
- Overseeing the daily administration and cleanliness of the museum galleries including but not limited to Forza Motorsports Gallery and the Discovery Center
- Conduct data tracking for various departmental needs and report data accurately
- Facilitating interactive demonstrations at gallery stations
- Working with and mentoring Discovery Center volunteers
- Maintaining gallery cleaning procedures and ensuring that supplies are replenished
- Implementing inquiry-based learning and interactive educational techniques
- Facilitating workshops and activities for all department programs including but not limited to Outreach, Little Sparks, Scouts, and Schools
- Leading school tours of museum galleries
- Leading public and private tours of museum galleries for guests of all ages
- Assisting departmental staff with program development and preparation including but not limited to module development, market research, activity preparation, scheduling, and marketing
- Communicate with Gallery Attendants and Guest Relations Coordinator to ensure daily schedule is maintained
- Assist with maintenance of the department closets and inventory all supplies
- Assisting departmental staff with administrative duties

Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:
- 2 years of college experience
