Brief Description
Job Objective: Under the direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist and the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor performs routine and basic pharmacy procedures for the operation of an acute care pharmacy to assist the Pharmacists.

Job Objective: Under the direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist and the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor performs routine and basic pharmacy procedures for the operation of an acute care pharmacy to assist the Pharmacists.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists Pharmacist in proper labeling of medications, processes medications orders and those returned to Pharmacy
- Assists Pharmacist in preparing labels.
- Assures adequate inventory is maintained at all times.
- Assures and credit and billing tasks are completed in a timely and thorough manner
- Maintains professional work habits by organizing workload, setting priorities, completing assignments in a timely manner, utilizing resources appropriately, complying with department program standards and adapting well to change
- Performs basic pharmacy procedures such as checking in merchandise, filling physician's orders for pharmacy verification, floor stock, preparing IV's and TPN's.
- Recognizes departures from the normal and discusses with pharmacist
- Maintains an appropriate level of competence by ongoing development of knowledge and skills
- Performs duties in accordance with relevant laws, regulations and technical standards
- Participates in age specific educational and training programs
- Refrains from disclosing confidential information acquired in the course of work except when authorized, unless legally obligated to do so
- Refrains from using or appearing to use confidential information acquired in the course of work for unethical or illegal advantage either personally or through third parties
- Regularly demonstrates commitment to a set of ethics and values by behaving in an ethical manner that is consistent with stated values. Supports and enforces hospital Corporate Compliance Program
- Avoids actual or apparent conflicts of interest and advises all appropriate parties of any potential conflict
- Refrains from engaging in any activity that would prejudice the ability to carry out duties ethically
- Disclose fully all relevant information that could reasonably be expected to influence an intended user understanding of the reports, comments, and recommendations presented
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge
- Understands and can apply all state and federal laws and regulations related to the practice of pharmacy. Pharmacy Law, MERP, Joint Commission.
- Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency regarding special needs and behaviors of age or ethnic specific groups
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrate the ability to collaborate with other health care professionals
- Ability to adhere with AVMC Policies and Procedures and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of corporate compliance rules and regulations
- Ability to adhere to safety rules and regulations and maintain the confidentiality of patient, hospital, and department information
- Coordinate with other team members and assists manager with implementation of new applications.

Education
- High School diploma.
- Associate of Arts or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Prior experience in acute care hospital OR a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a pharmacy preferred.
- Current State of California Pharmacy Technician License
- CPhT preferred
- Ability to adhere with AVMC Attendance and Punctuality Policy.

- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of patients, hospital and department information.

- Ability to interpret and function under hospital and department policies and procedures.
- Conforms with required and appropriate accreditation and regulatory requirements.
- Conforms with and supports hospital quality assurance and improvement guidelines.
- Ability to participate effectively in department and hospital staff education.
- Display a willingness to work as a team player.
- Ability to give and support the highest level of patient/customer satisfaction at all times.

- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Compliance & Integrity Program and its established policies.

- Works primarily in an office environment.
- Requires ability to stand, sit or walk around department and facility most of the day.
- Some bending, lifting less than 20 lbs. and occasionally reaching above the shoulder.
- Typing, answering phones and working around automated equipment.
- Potential for exposure to dangerous or toxic medications.
- May need PPE if preparing chemotherapy.
