Job Description

DCPS is a comprehensive general contractor specializing in large-scale insurance restoration, construction defect, capital improvements, and exterior building envelope projects for commercial, industrial, and multi-family properties. The Director of Operations plays a pivotal role in aligning departmental workflows with company objectives, ensuring high-performance standards across field operations, and supporting corporate growth through consistent and accountable leadership.

Essential Functions

The Director of Operations leads the construction operations team, ensuring that field execution, project schedules, budgets, quality standards, and client satisfaction remain aligned with company expectations. This position oversees project delivery, resource allocation, departmental systems, and team development while acting as a critical bridge between executive strategy and jobsite execution.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide executive oversight of all ongoing construction projects across divisions.
  • Collaborate with ownership, General Manager and Project Managers to ensure accurate scheduling, procurement, budget control, and resource management.
  • Develop and implement SOPs for operations, QA/QC, safety, and production efficiency.
  • Work closely with Estimators and Project Managers to ensure a smooth transition into operations and consistency in execution.
  • Establish project benchmarks and enforce accountability for field performance, schedule adherence, and contract compliance.
  • Lead bi-weekly Operations Team meetings to align on goals, risks, and priorities.
  • Ensure that each project has a detailed execution plan and labor force strategy.
  • Mentor and support Project Managers and Superintendents through proactive leadership and performance evaluations.
  • Resolve escalated jobsite issues related to field coordination, subcontractor performance, and schedule impacts.
  • Track KPIs, labor productivity, and margin performance; report to executive leadership.
  • Collaborate with HR and Recruiting to onboard and train new operations staff.
  • Ensure safety compliance across all job sites through inspections, reporting, and enforcement.
  • Drive internal communication and feedback loops between field staff and executive leadership.
  • Attend Owner/Architect/Contractor (OAC) meetings to represent DCPS operations leadership.
  • Support client relationships through high-level communication, problem-solving, and delivery assurance.
  • Monitor project profitability, change order management, and final project closeout.
  • Perform job site visits regularly to evaluate progress, staff performance, and risk management.
  • Contribute positively to corporate culture and leadership cohesion.
  • Standardize Logistics procedures directly related to housing and site based challenges to better support production staff.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in general contracting or construction, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or operational role.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams of Project Managers, Superintendents, and Field Staff across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Deep understanding of construction practices, scheduling, financial management, and workforce development.
  • Strong leadership presence, problem-solving ability, and organizational discipline.
  • Effective communicator with experience managing client expectations and subcontractor performance.
  • Proficiency in project management software, ERP systems, scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project or Primavera), and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in fast-paced, growth-oriented contracting environments is a plus.
