Description

The Takeoff Technician (Estimator) plays a critical role in supporting field operations by calculating precise sod quantities for residential landscape installation projects. Focused on takeoffs, this position leverages site plans, architectural drawings, and field data to measure sodable areas accurately. The estimator provides detailed documentation to guide project planning, material procurement, and scheduling while ensuring consistent communication with internal teams to drive execution readiness.

Requirements

What Success Looks Like

  • Perform detailed square footage calculations for sod installation by reviewing architectural drawings, engineering layouts, and site plans
  • Interpret grading plans, lot diagrams, and plot layouts to determine sodable areas and installation scope
  • Validate takeoffs through physical site visits when needed, verifying contours, access points, and any field deviations from plan
  • Collaborate with the Landscape Operations and Field Production teams to align takeoff results with installation logistics
  • Monitor and adjust internal unit cost assumptions based on current market trends, vendor pricing, and install methods
  • Track and report on takeoff volumes and project coverage weekly to inform backlog planning and capacity metrics
  • Support material procurement timelines by sharing estimated quantities and delivery needs
  • Review sod proposals, when required, to validate scope alignment and confirm material requirements
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sod varieties, site prep requirements, and installation best practices for turfgrass
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned that support the mission and core values of The Loving Companies, ensuring alignment with our culture of community, integrity, and impact

What Sets You Apart

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in landscape estimating, construction estimating, or a field-based technical landscape role
  • Familiarity with sod installation practices, including site prep, soil conditions, and turf selection
  • Proficient in interpreting technical documents including blueprints, site surveys, grading plans, and planting layouts
  • Experience with digital plan review and takeoff software
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical accuracy in calculating square footage and site dimensions
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple project timelines and priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex measurements and technical details in a clear manner
  • Must be comfortable walking active job sites and working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
  • Spanish language skills are a plus
