Position Opportunity

The role manages all activities associated with their front-line team, to positively impact on the overall department. The role will be leading a team consisting of hourly front-line associates, and possibly salaried exempt associates. Responsibilities include cost efficiency, continuous improvement in laboratory processes, and food safety. This is an opportunity to lead a diverse team of 15 to 50 hourly quality lab technicians with varying levels of experience. This role is expected to develop individuals and the team to laboratory quality issues and motivate team members to achieve performance targets.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Perform item releases
  • Review CoA's for incoming raw materials. Analyze to ensure adherence to AFI specifications.
  • Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring adherence to established protocols and procedures.
  • Be part of SQF program in the facility and drive continuous improvement of quality lab systems to ensure compliance and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain and enforce strict adherence to safety regulations and best practices, promoting a culture of safety within the laboratory.
  • Partners with sales to determine exposure / impact of quality problems as well as potential improvements.
  • Demonstrates computer skills required for the position - spreadsheet and database software and basic abilities to read and manipulate drawings.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of laboratory supplies and equipment, coordinating procurement and maintenance activities as needed.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of experimental data and oversee data management and documentation processes.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and equipment malfunctions, coordinating repairs and maintenance with appropriate personnel.
  • Applies 80/20 principles to daily operation.
  • Maintain calibration of all quality control equipment and measurement devices.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in laboratory techniques, technologies, and regulatory requirements, and implement relevant improvements.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Generate weekly quality KPI reports and update the site leadership.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Prepare and maintain reports, records, and documentation related to laboratory operations, experiments, and safety procedures.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, promoting teamwork, open communication, and knowledge sharing among laboratory staff.

Qualifications

Education/Training/Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality or related field
  • HACCP, PCQI, SQF, or other relevant food safety certifications are preferred.

Knowledge/Skills Experience

  • Responsible for knowing and adhering to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
  • Supervisory and/or leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with data analytics within Microsoft Excel, ERP Systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Technical understanding of industrial engineered products with the ability to communicate technically with customers, suppliers, and co-workers
  • Experience in demonstrating technical leadership with Continuous Improvement systems including the ability to utilize structured problem-solving methods to deliver breakthrough business results.
  • Proven experience in laboratory management or supervision, preferably in research or industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to handle unexpected situations and prioritize tasks under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and quality standards relevant to the laboratory environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and ethical work environment.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing technologies and scientific advancements.

Travel Requirements

  • This position requires travel between multiple aerosol production facilities, reliable transportation is required.
