Position Purpose
The Community Wellness Director is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing holistic wellness programs that promote physical, mental, and emotional health in the Hawthorne and Whitman neighborhoods. This role centers community voice and history, supports healthy lifestyles, improves access to resources (including employment), and fosters neighborhood belonging.

Position Purpose
The Community Wellness Director is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing holistic wellness programs that promote physical, mental, and emotional health in the Hawthorne and Whitman neighborhoods. This role centers community voice and history, supports healthy lifestyles, improves access to resources (including employment), and fosters neighborhood belonging.
Responsibilities/Essential Duties
- Develop and implement a comprehensive wellness strategy that reflects the needs and priorities of Hawthorne and Whitman residents.
- Establish and manage partnerships with local health agencies, mental health providers, nonprofits, and fitness and nutrition organizations.
- Design and coordinate community wellness events, screenings, workshops, and educational sessions.
- Create and maintain systems to track wellness outcomes, assess program effectiveness, and produce reports for stakeholders.
- Collaborate with residents, community leaders, and program teams to integrate wellness into broader neighborhood revitalization efforts.
- Lead efforts to connect residents to health-related resources, including job opportunities.
- Represent Northside Neighbors at local meetings, public forums, and partner events to advocate for wellness equity in North Tulsa.
- Supervise and support staff, interns, or volunteers involved in wellness programs and activities.
- Contribute to grant applications, reporting, and communications related to wellness initiatives.
- Participate in all organizational events and support broader efforts of Northside Neighbors as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Public Health, Social Work, Community Development, Health Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience in community-based health promotion, wellness programming, or nonprofit program management.
- Demonstrated experience working in historically underserved or marginalized communities, especially in urban settings.
- Experience managing projects, supervising teams, and developing partnerships across sectors.
- Familiarity with social determinants of health, trauma-informed care, and racial equity frameworks.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including facilitation and public speaking.
- Ability to design and evaluate programs using data and community feedback.
- Culturally competent and empathetic, with a deep understanding of the North Tulsa community.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and basic data tracking systems.
- Strategic thinker and problem solver with the ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities.
- High degree of professionalism, discretion, and emotional intelligence.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion (e.g., event materials).
- Ability to stand, walk, or be physically active during community events or outreach activities.
- Must be able to work both indoors (office setting) and outdoors (community events, neighborhood canvassing).
- Must be able to travel locally and occasionally out of town as required.
- This is an in-person position based in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
- Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Evening or weekend hours may occasionally be required for events and community engagement.
- Some travel required for professional development, networking, and training.
- This is primarily an office-based role with periodic fieldwork in the community.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and active automobile insurance.
- Must pass a background check prior to employment.
