The Senior Accountant is responsible for assisting the Controller in managing the finance department. This role is responsible for achieving finance goals and objectives by ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of accounting and financial functions.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Assist in financial statement preparation, including journal entries, bank reconciliation, event reconciliation and department financials.
- Collaborate with department heads to support the development and monitoring of the annual operating budget.
- Fixed asset accounting oversight including capitalization, depreciation, and asset tracking.
- Assist with audit preparation, including workpaper preparation and research.
- Oversight and review of payables process.
- Calculate and remit sales tax and royalties.
- Assist in the maintenance and continuous improvement of the accounting system.
- Process payroll as a backup when needed, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with payroll policies.
- Reconcile inventory periodically and record monthly cost of goods sold in coordination with relevant departments.
- Assist with show settlements, reconciling event revenue and expenses and ensuring timely reporting.
- Monitor credit card chargebacks and support fraud prevention efforts.
- Contribute to special projects, cross-departmental initiatives, and other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting with a minimum of five years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred, but not required; knowledge of accounting practices and office procedures required; experience working with financial statements and audits; experience working in performing arts and non-profit organizations is highly preferred. Familiarity with Sage Intacct is preferred.
