Job Description

With annual revenue of $400M, 600 employees, and operations in Mexico and the US, The Vice President of Operations has primary responsibility for the effective operations of Sierra North American Aluminum Extrusion manufacturing operations. The position will be the architect and steward of manufacturing policies, annual capital for equipment and facilities and working capital requirements to ensure +98% on-time Shipping, and be accountable for a full plant Operations cost management, as well as compliance with all company and regulatory safety, quality, and environmental aspects of the manufacturing function. In addition, the position will provide leadership and direction to the manufacturing and equipment teams, as well as to collaborate with the senior management team to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans to meet Sierra’s growth and profitability objectives. The Vice President will be expected to foster a culture that promotes continuous improvement through employee engagement as well as innovation that leads to the development of new products and services.

Reporting to this position will be the following: Foundry Plant Manager, Riverside Extrusion Plant Manager, Fontana Extrusion Plant Manager, Fontana Finishing Plant Manager, Mexico GM, Maintenance Manager, EHS Manager. Reporting to the President is a critical member of the senior management team with key interfacing roles with the VP of Sales and Marketing, Director of Supply Chain, Director of Technical Services, CFO and the Director of HR. Significant interface with customers is required. The role requires a candidate to be results-oriented and an expert at driving change to achieve strategic objectives and profitability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Overall responsibility for the performance of manufacturing, on-time service, and distribution to ensure the product lines are manufactured at the lowest possible cost while maintaining high quality and delivery standards.
  • Drive monthly plant business reviews to drive achievement in all areas of safety, quality, service, working capital, and costs.
  • Lead profit improvement programs through the utilization of lean manufacturing methods and techniques, including Six Sigma.
  • Maintain inventory controls and develop production time and quality standards.
  • Assure effective use and increasing returns on company working capital and overall investment management, stock-keeping practices, materials movement, and other critical logistics metrics.
  • Plan and implement facility construction & modification; assess and consolidate manufacturing assets as dictated by the business plan.
  • Ensure the effective use and application of manufacturing technology and techniques by leveraging our supplier and vendor base.
  • Establish monitoring systems to effectively manage safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
  • Develop strategic and operating plans to improve competitiveness, optimize inventory levels, and manage financial operating plans.
  • Has a deep understanding of business drivers, able to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and to coordinate effective troubleshooting of operations.
  • Lead operations teams to develop annual operating plans and key performance indicators that support growth and profit improvement initiatives.
  • Frequently meet with direct reports to track performance to annual objectives and identify and eliminate obstacles toward the attainment of those objectives with a strong bias for profit.
  • Collaborate with HR in the development of operations-related programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Define the talent requirements for engineering and operating personnel, including attracting, managing, developing, and retaining talent. Drive engagement best practices to make Samuel a great place to work.
  • Promote and direct a safe work culture.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Some travel expected to Mexico and to customers as required.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related business field, master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience with measured manufacturing excellence such as Lean Six Sigma (green belt certified preferred, black belt certified a plus).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing management and logistics/supply chain positions for companies with sales in excess of $250M offering industrial products in a multi-plant environment.
  • Ability to analyze P&L statements, implement expense controls, and validate processes of KPI measurements.
  • Significant project management experience is a requirement with a strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, and strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with a combination of manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, and/or materials management.
  • Proven track record of managing an operations team.
  • Fluent in Spanish is a significant benefit for this role

The annual base salary range for this position is $218,807 - $267,431. If you are hired, your annual base pay will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base pay range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued wage growth.
