This mid-level tax accountant role offers a strategic and hands-on opportunity to manage complex tax matters within a privately held organization. Ideal for a professional seeking meaningful impact, the position involves business tax compliance, fixed asset oversight, and real estate-related planning. You'll collaborate extensively with international accounting colleagues, particularly our Mexico-based team, while contributing to broader financial initiatives across multiple business ventures.

Responsibilities

Tax Compliance & Planning

  • Prepare and file federal and California tax returns for ownership entities and individual stakeholders
  • Oversee compliance for income derived from real estate, investments, and related business lines
  • Handle multi-country tax reporting as needed (e.g. FBAR, Form 8938)
  • Track quarterly estimates and ensure timely filings


Real Estate-Focused Tax Strategy

  • Manage depreciation schedules and fixed asset tracking for property holdings
  • Advise on 1031 exchanges, bonus depreciation, and timing strategies for acquisitions or sales


Internal Advisory & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate documentation for tax records and planning
  • Coordinate with outside CPAs or legal advisors when needed
  • Support payroll tax filings and business-level compliance
  • Monitor tax law changes affecting business operations


Collaboration & Team Integration

  • Work daily with Mexican accountants to review financial documentation and filings
  • Train international team members on U.S. tax processes and systems
  • Improve workflows, strengthen digital tools, and ensure secure document management


Qualifications

Education & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA or EA preferred, but not required
  • 3–5 years of tax-focused experience
  • Strong Excel and fixed asset management skills
  • Familiarity with real estate tax regulations
  • Understanding of international reporting requirements is a plus
