The New York City Department of Investigation (“DOI”) is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country; its mission is to combat municipal corruption. DOI serves the people of New York City by acting as an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for New York City government, City agencies, and City employees, vendors with City contracts, individuals and entities that receive City funds.
DOI is seeking a highly skilled and motivated data analyst to join its Data Analytics Unit (DAU), which supports criminal and policy-driven investigations across all DOI squads. The DAU is a tech-forward, collaborative environment, where analytical rigor, data fluency, and critical thinking are vital to uncovering waste, fraud, and abuse.
As a Data Analyst, you will manage and analyze large, disparate data sets to develop investigative leads, support ongoing investigations, and assist in legal proceedings. You will prepare and present clear, actionable findings for investigators and decision-makers.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance practices for identifying patterns and trends related to fraud, waste and abuse.
- Assist with the development of analytical models and tools to improve investigative outcomes.
- Acquire, clean, and manage data from various internal and external sources.
- Work collaboratively with DOI investigators to generate investigative leads, create reports, and interpret data.
- Collaborate closely with DOI attorneys, auditors, fellow analysts, and investigators, as well as prosecutors and local law enforcement, agencies leadership, and other stakeholders, on investigative matters as well as special projects relating to data.

Minimum Qualifications
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in an industrial or governmental agency in the field of investigation, auditing, law enforcement, security, inspections, or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, or Information Systems. - Experience working in data analytics including but not limited to data cleansing and wrangling, exploratory data analysis, machine learning, and statistical analysis. - Strong analytical written and verbal communication skills. - Familiarity with data acquisition tools and techniques for SQL/NoSQL databases including ETL and the ability to construct and execute complex queries. - Knowledge in one or more object-oriented programming languages including Python, or R.
