We are currently seeking a forward-thinking and entrepreneurial Vice President of Architecture – Business Development to drive the strategic growth of our national Architecture practice across multiple markets. This position can be a remote role or reside in one of our Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Florida, Virginia or Maryland offices.
What You’ll Do:
This executive-level role will be a key leader in expanding our portfolio, strengthening client relationships, and positioning the firm as a recognized thought leader in the architecture industry. As the VP of Architecture – Business Development, you will collaborate with executive leadership to shape market strategy, identify emerging opportunities, and lead the pursuit of high-value projects across the firm’s Architecture sectors, including (but not limited to) Civic, Justice, Hospitality, Education, Healthcare, Building Envelope, and Commercial. You’ll be responsible for business development leadership, strategic positioning, client engagement, and market expansion; all while mentoring teams and promoting design excellence throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute strategic business development plans to grow the Architecture portfolio across all active and emerging markets.
- Serve as a visible and respected industry presence, cultivating strong relationships with public and private clients, community leaders, and design partners.
- Shape and drive go-to-market strategies in partnership with firm leadership, marketing, and sector leads to ensure competitive positioning and brand strength.
- Identify and pursue major project opportunities, leading capture strategies, proposal development, and presentations to win work.
- Serve as an internal advisor and thought leader on design innovation, market trends, client priorities, and emerging sectors.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams (architecture, planning, engineering, Federal Programs) to deliver integrated solutions that align with client objectives and firm values.
- Champion quality, accountability, and client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide executive-level guidance on staffing strategies, financial performance, resourcing, and risk management for the Architecture business.
- Mentor and develop talent across the practice, with a focus on leadership development, succession planning, and a culture of collaboration.
- Represent the firm at key industry events, conferences, and forums to enhance visibility and reinforce our commitment to excellence and innovation.
- Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
- Active architectural license (RA) required; NCARB certification strongly preferred.
- 15–20+ years of progressive experience in architectural practice, including executive-level leadership in business development and/or market expansion.
- Proven track record of securing major architectural projects and growing business in multiple market sectors.
- Broad understanding of architecture practice areas (Civic, Justice, Hospitality, Education, Healthcare, Building Envelope, and Commercial, etc.) and public/private funding models.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills with experience leading distributed, multidisciplinary teams.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills with experience engaging boards, agency leaders, and community stakeholders.
- Ability to think strategically, act entrepreneurially, and drive sustainable growth.
- Proficiency in design technologies; familiarity with Revit and BIM workflows preferred.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly for client, project, and business development needs.
