Description
As a Data Engineer II in the Intelligence & Industrialization (I&I) team within Amazon's Global Supply Chain and Transportation Procurement/Amazon Customs & Trade (GSCTP/ACT) organization, you'll develop innovative software solutions to automate processes and enhance efficiency in 3P transportation logistics procurement and customs & trade operations. You'll work on high-visibility projects with immediate, substantial impacts on Amazon's vast transportation and supply chain network.
Key job responsibilities
You'll collaborate closely with business teams to understand their domain and design tailored solutions. Your day might involve extracting and transforming data from various sources, optimizing database performance, or building new automation tools. You'll work with large datasets, leveraging AWS services and modern programming technologies. You'll participate in Agile ceremonies, document your work, and communicate with stakeholders to ensure your solutions meet their needs.

The Intelligence & Industrialization (I&I) team is a data analytics sub-team embedded across GSCTP & ACT. We manage relationships with over 100 third-party transportation service providers, handling an annual spend exceeding $22B. Our work directly impacts Amazon's global supply chain, customs brokerage, and cross-border transportation operations. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $118,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. - Design and implement analytical data infrastructure for large datasets
- Develop end-to-end ETL and data warehousing solutions using AWS services and Amazon big data technologies
- Build and deploy robust automation solutions with intuitive UIs and backend data pipelines
- Optimize database cluster performance and implement workload management mechanisms
- Collaborate with BI Engineers and Data Scientists to deliver data visualization and ML solutions
- Construct and maintain a data catalog for key tables, datasets, metrics, and reports
- Document software designs and data flows for frontend UI and backend integrations
- Implement Agile methodologies for iterative software development

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 3+ years of data engineering experience
- Experience as a data engineer or related specialty (e.g., software engineer, business intelligence engineer, data scientist) with a track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets
- Experience with SQL
- Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS
- Master's degree
- 5+ years of data engineering experience
- Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions
- Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets
- Experience working in the transportation and logistics industry
- Knowledge of statistical modeling and advanced quantitative analytical techniques
